Now York, May 22.—By a combination of good luck and splendid sailing qualities the new cup yncht Reliance has inflicted such n defeat upon (tie former cup defender Columbia as she had never before sufTefed, leading her over the finish line of a twenty-live mile course off Glen Cove by fourteen minutes qnd forty-three seconds, official time. Cap Defender, AHlilnud, Kan., Mny 22.—This place and a large portion of the country were laid waste last night by a tornado. The homes of six citizens wore completely wrecked. As many as fifty houses are partially demolished. Three citizens were Injured when their houses went down. A large assortment of new and beautiful goods, suitable for wedding and anni versary gifts. We invite your inspection. Not all the glory of that rosy victory was fairly earned by the new boat. If it bad been, there would be no doubt that the Reliance would be the next cup defender. But, despite the Columbia's ill luck, the Reliance convincingly showed herself to be the better boat. She had beaten the Columbia nearly eight minutes In a broad roach of eleven miles In fluky zephyrs, beaten hei one minute nnd fifteen seconds running free fof three miles In a steady twelvo knot breeze and beaten her four minutes nnd fifteen seconds In an eleven mile thrash to windward close hauled In n fifteen knot southwester. President Cassatt Orders Removal of Though both sides made concessions, the victory seems to be with the laboring men. The- agreement concedes the right of employees as well as employers to organize, permits employers to choose their employees regardless of their membership In unions, forbids the dlschnrge of employees on account of their affiliations with unions, provides for the arbitration of the present differences by a board to consist of five each of employers and employees directly Involved in the present trouble, with, if necessary, an eleventh man who has not been so involved, the findings of this board to be binding upon all members of the Citizens' alliance and upon all unions represented by the general executive committee; all strikes, lockouts and boycotts are declared off. Authority is Granted to Deposit Sur- Rival Telegraph Poles and Wins plus Customs Receipts, as Well as in Six States, and a Large Force of The fruit farm of F. R. Kerns was swept clean of trees and buildings. The Thels ranch house was destroyed, and trees and windmills are down in all directions. Mnny cattle were killed. Those From International Revenue, Men Is at Work. In the Banks. H. G. Shupp Washington, May 22.—At a recent conference at Hot Springs, Va., between Senators Aldrich, Allison and Spooner, members of the sub-committee of the Senate finance committee appointed to consider financial legislation, the new Aldrich financial bill was agreed upon in all its essential features. As now outlined the new bill doesn't differ materially from the original Aldrich measure in the provisions relating to the deposit of public moneys in National banks and the character of security to be given by them to insure its safekeeping. The main features of the old bill are retained. These are the granting of authority to deposit surplus customs receipts, as well as those from international revenue, in banks. Philadelphia, 22.—The last obstacle In the litigation between the Pennsylvania railroad and the Western Union Telegruph company over the poles and wires of the latter company on the railroad's right of way having been removed by the United States clr- It Is reported that other villages in this vicinity suffered. A dispatch from Chickosha, I. T., says a tornado passed over the town of Lone Wolf, sixty-five miles west of Chlckasha on the Mangum brnnch of the Itock Island. Four houses were blown down and their contents scattered. Mrs. Ilargan, wife of a farmer, wus blown ngainst a barbed wire fence and killed. The tornado wrecked telephone and telegraph wires, destroying trees, fences and outhouses and killing stock. Expert Optician, 36 W. Market St., Wilkssbarre. This time Is unofficial and allows for Reliance's flft.v-five seconds' advantago at the start. When the Reliance crossed the finish line the Columbia was miles astern and hopelessly beaten. BAR The men now out are to be reinstated as rapidly as their services can be utilized and all snits for Injunctions are to be withdrawn. Panamn, May 22.—It is learned from an official source that there Is no truth In the report recently circulated that President Marroquln had resigned. The representatives to congress from the Isthmus of Tanamn will leave here next Saturday for Bogota. Judging from articles published In the leading Colombian papers, it Is doubtful that the Panama canal treaty will be approved In its present form. There Is a general belief that the $10,000,000 to be paid by the United States Is too small a sum for the concessions granted, and, furthermore, it Is expected that the Panama Canal company will give Colombia a part of the $40,000,000 paid to It by the United States. ' Canal Treaty In I)onbt. Word comes from Saiina that tlint county bus experienced throe tornadoes within twenty-four horn's. At As- Bnrin two persons* were killed nnd a dozen or more Injured. Although the public relief funds raised in this city have been remarkably large, having reached about $20,000, inquiry among Russian Jews and the ghetto has shown that perhaps even more money than thoy have contributed to the public funds has been sent privately in tho form of tickets and postal remittances.
