He attended church both morning and evening and In the afternoon went for a horseback ride, accompanied by Beth Bullock, superintendent of the Black Hills forest reserves. The fact that President Roosevelt attended divine services twice was due to an error on the part of the local committee. The committee had the impression that the president was a member of the German Lutheran church and accordingly arranged to have him attend that church In the morning. The nary department in making this increase contemplates squadrons In Asiatic and Philippine waters under three geiferal heads—viz, vessels of the line of battle, made of the battleships Kentucky, Oregon and Wisconsin and the monitors Monterey and Monadnock, nil of which are now there except the Wisconsin, which sails from Puget sound about May 1; second, the cruiser squadron, made up of the New Orleans, which Is already,on the Asiatic station, and the Raleigh, now in the Caribbean sea, and the Albany and the Cincinnati, and the third , squadron, made up of gunboats and small craft designed especially for service in the smaller bodies of water where the larger ships because of their draft are anable to go. Amsterdam, April D.—As a result of a meeting last evening, the workmen engaged in transportation services of all kinds, including the railroads, struck today. The situation Is 6o serious that troops are guarding the railroad property and the quays. The government is trying to run a foreign express train under protection of the military. Butte, Mont., April 6.—The decision of the supreme court in the Pennsylvania mining case is worth $5,000,000 to F. A. Helnise and the Montana Ore Purchasing company, as it establishes their right to fully $2,000,000 worth ot ore already taken out Of the disputed ground by Mr. Helnze and claimed by the defendant, the Boston and Montana Mining company, and secures them In the right to follow the veins of the Rarus mine on their dip in the Pennsylvania ground. Chicago, April (J.—Because he tried to force his car through u parade that was blocking traffic in Ifalstead street Motorman Zoran was shot and seriously Injured by one of the marchers. Nearly a thousand Italians who were in the parade broke ranks as soon as the disturbance began, and a riot followed, in wbich switching Irons, bricks and other missiles were used. In response to a riot call a score of policemen were on the scene in a few minutes, but before quiet could be restored several persons were severely cut and bruised. Two of the Italians who, it is supposed, did the shooting were arrested.Bristol, H. Furwell, committed suicide by shooting. He was a student at Howdoin college in the class that was graduated in 11)00. Hamilton, Out., April 6.—The local hospital authorities and the police are endeavoring to locate the next of kin of George W. Todd, an old man who died In the hospital on Saturday. ' Washington, April 0.—The enlisted men of the ships of the battleship squadron are to be given a net leave of ten days when the vessels are docked for repairs In about a month and a half. He attended church both morning and evening and In the afternoon went for a horseback ride, accompanied by Beth Bullock, superintendent of the Black Hills forest reserves. The fact that President Roosevelt attended divine services twice was due to an error on the part of the local committee. The committee had the impression that the president was a member of the German Lutheran church and accordingly arranged to have him attend that church In the morning.
