Early in the summer of 1889 he had a sunstroke which affected his mental faculties, and on his twenty-first birthday he was in a sanitarium near Detroit, Mich. Extraordinary secrecy has been preserved ever since the packers reached an agreement and notliled their attorneys to go ahead with the legal steps to form the combination. It was stuted in Wall street that all the big capitalists Identified with the formation of the combination were In the city last week attending to the final details and that prolonged meetings were held uptown and in Jersey City. The plan of operation has been carefully mapped out by the attorneys. Nevertheless It is said that the combination capitalized at $15,000,000 announced yesterday Is merely a tentative plan put forth to discover the quarter from which opposition will develop.8RENNAN S ROBERTS, Sir Hector was lying on the floor witli a revolver near him. The maid quickly notified the proprietor, who immediately summoned medical nssistnuce. This, however, arrived too late to be of service, for death followed very quickly. His father, Frederick S. Chase, was removing him from this place to a sanitarium in Indiana and had taken the boy to the Cadillac hotel lu lDe- JWi'it, where he was met by an uncle and auut, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. lMilime of Cincinnati, who were allowed to take the boy out driving. 42 North Maht Street, CfNext to Eagle Hotel. Both phones Always Lowest in Pricc. THE WEATHER AMUSEMENTS. Washington, March 20.—Fair tonight and Friday: warmer in the northern portion on Friday. "The Liberty Belles," a new musical comedy by Harry B, Smith, comes to the Lyric tomorrow evening. The story of Mr. Smith's comedy has its foundation In a sentimental escapade on the part of Margery Lee, a stage-struck girl, engaged to Phil Fullerton, a Columbia junior, and Dorothy Gray, a fellow student, secretly married to Jack Eveiieigh, an Annapolis cadet. There are three acts, the scenes of which show a dormitory in a young women's seminary, with the pupils engaged in a clandestine midnight supper, the kitchen of the cooking school of "The Liberty Belles" and a fashionable hotel In Florida. There is no chorus in the production, Mr. Smith having replaced it by characters that have an actual place and definite purpose in the story. The scenery and costumes are described as superb. "The Liberty Belles," Friday. Rib Boiling Meat, 3c per lb. Evans Bros. War Of!lcC? Notified For Onion Sets, Best stock, 5c qt. The commissary of police was Informed of the tragedy und a telegram was sent to the British war office. A preliminary search by the police resulted In the discovery of no valuables, money or papers in his luggage. On the table were two notes, both in English, but the contents of these are understood to have no bearing on the affair. The boy's father snys they abducted htm and were next heard of at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. RANSOM. Chase tried to luive them arrested on a charge of aialuction, but Governor Filigree refused to Issue a requisition. In the announcement made In Chicago the list of Companies taken over by the National racking company includes properties acquired a year ago when tlie preliminary steps were taken to form the $300,000,000 beef trust. These properties were acquired by members of the Big Four. It is argued that if a combination of these packing companies be proved to'lte legal it •follows that a larger combination built upon exactly the same lines will necessarily be within the antitrust laws. The father sent detectives to get the boy, but he was told the young man had been taken away. In certain financial quarters it was plain!? Intimated that the "beef barons" are putting up n straw man at which the "trust hunters" can tuke a thrust. If their efforts are successful and the combination is declared illegal and contrary to the interstate com merce laws, the National Packing company will be placed in liquidation and the properties returned to the original owners. These of course are the Armours, Swifts, Morrises and Cudaliys. Ills revolver was taken by the French officials. The weapon is apparently a brand new one, with caliber Uinni. cartridges. Evans Bros. Mrs. Weiss and daughter, Grace, of West Plttston, spent last Sunday with the family of G. C. Ace. One of the most remarkable cases of a cold, deep-seated on the lungs, causing pneumonia, is that of Mrs. Gertrude E. At the same time the promoters of the beef trust, besides providing a test case for themselves, have turned the formation of the National Packing company into a we. conceived effort to consolidate the Uouting debt of each Interest, which was established when the independent concerns were purchased some time ago. These acquisitions never have been financed, owing to the fact that it was expected that the big combination would be accomplished within a short time. So it happened that the financing of the purchases of the independent companies was postponed from time to time until the understanding was recently reached.
