GARDEN CLUB MEMBERS were busy last weekend refurbishing window boxes along Beaver Street with new greenery to match the mood of the season. SHOP WINDOWS all over town are glistening with the joy and glamor of Christmas. "Something for everyone" is waiting for your selection now. // "Easjer For Servicemen To Call Home Sewickley area residents who wish to talk to servicemen in Vietnam during the coming holiday season were advised by the telephone company today that in most -instances it is ea'sier for a serviceman to call home than it is for his family to reach him, ' Art Blackmore, local manager for Bell Telephone, said “servicemen are e n c o u r,a g e d to not!-, fy their families in advance it they expect to telephone h 0 m e, particularly around the holidays.”"' '-‘•Blackmore said more than 38,000 calls were completed between the United States and Vietnam last year, four and a half times as many as in 1965. Most of the calls were'completed from the Vietnam end because of t h e difficulty in locating servicemen when calls come in from the States. (Please turn to page 24) Old Economy Parties Start December 2 A special treat is ahead foi over 6000 kindergarten through second-grade students in the area when Old Economy begins its Christmas parties December 2 through December .20, This will be the first chance of many of the children to visit the his-, toric preserved -village and see how people lived 140 years ago. While they are visiting they will see a cabinetmaker use fee tools of the Harmony Society in'-the original cabinet shop. They Will see an expert weaver make’doth and how spinning is dorte. Some /will get a chance to try some ’of these things themselves. They' will see an old-fasliioned brick . stove in' operation and will be shown^an exhibit of modern European toys on loan from Creative Playthings. The plan calls for scrapping the police departments in all 129 municipalities in Allegheny County. Two Allegheny County Com-missioners/have rejected the idea of a county-wide police force to replace police departments in the 329 municipalites. Commissioners Leonard C. Stair sey and Thomas J. This only adds to the handling and delay of getting the mail delivered”. It is estimated that it takes about 50 billion individual handlings of holiday mail to process the total volume. According to Postmaster Start* letters without Zip Code are handled five and six times before reaching their destination. This creates unnecessary work and is wasteful of both time and money. If you need anyone’s Zip Code, call 644-4690 - NOW! , • Mr. Start has pledged that he and his staff will do their best to be good Santa helpers but des-parately need the assistance of the public so that everyone’s holiday will be a bit brighter. In addition to using Zip Codes, users of the mails are urged to process their mail as early in -the day as possible. Early mailing assures an even flow of mail and alleviates jam-ups in the postal system. * Everything In Readiness For Santa Arrangements have heen completed for the arrival of Santa ClaUs on Saturday morning.
