Miller, SCwickley’s* new postmaster. Miller’s appointment was confirmed last week by Paul N. Carlin, Postmaster General of the U.S.. Postal Service. Miller, a resident of Emsworth and current postmaster of Ambridge, assumes has new duties on March 2. When interviewed by the Herald, the new postmaster was thrilled about his new place of employment. “It’s always been my goal to be 'postmaster of Sewickley,” he revealed. “Sewickley’s one of the nicest com-. munities in Western Pennsylvania. In fact, it might be the nicest community in the United States.” Miller added that he’s looking forward •to working with the staff at the Sewickley Post Office. Together, he • said, they will work to provide Sewickley customers with efficiency and excellency of service. The Avalon High School graduate worked his way up through the ranks of the postal system through a career that goes back 30 years to a beginning position as a mail carrier in Emsworth. Later promotions took Miller to the main Pittsburgh Post Office, where he served as foreman and general forman. He received, his appointment as postmaster of Ambridge in 1980. Postmaster Miller is married and has two children.-He is active in the Masons, Syria Temple, and the Syria Temple Oriental Band. He is a past master of Avalon Lodge 657. Since the retirement of former Sewickley Postmaster Donald Stack on Aug. 31,1984, the Sewickley Post Office has been without a postmaster. Jackie Annesis has been serving as officer in charge. Miller was one of three postmasters appointed simultaneously in the states of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The Postal Service notes that Miller’s appointment adds to the increasing number of postmasters named by the U.S. Postal Service under the nonpolitical merit system established by the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970. Recommendations for appointments are made by sectional Center manager/postmasters to the Postmaster General through appropriate management channels.
