'A*rfjt_*. y* * v. -. The Sewickley Hospital, Dedicated To-day. A great and deeply interested throng will-gather about Sewickley's noble hospital this afternoon. The ambulance door, at the northern end of the building, will be the center of interest during the opening exercises. Here the space is shaded in the forenoon, and the top of the stone wall affords room for many. The week has been one of extreme activity- among the devoted women who got the. hospital ready for opening day. The amount of work to be done was almost beyond description. But it was all finished before noon"on the eventful day. Men's work'did much, also. The Bishop construction company completed the roadway from Blackburn avenue, and put finishing touches to the handsome wall which holds back the hillside. The interior of the hospital is a place of ideal comfort and cleanliness. The walls, and window curtains, are pure white, and the hue of each ward's woodwork- and fittings render the rooms cheery and homelike. In the lower portion of the structure, the laundry is in complete working order, and electric fans keep it reasonably cool. Every operating room is a model of its kind, and instruments are plenty. The kitchen 'is another place, to.arouse admiration and was closely inspected by the women present. The services will'begin promptly at 3 o'clock with a brief statement by Mr. George E. McGague, president of the board of trustees. This will be followed by the dedication by Rev. A. G. Wallace, D. D. The Scripture lesson will be "'The Miracle at the Pool of Bethesda," and Psalm 127: 1, 9. All will unite in these words of dedication: "0, Thou who on earth didst heal the sick, .open the eyes of the blind and the ears of the deaf; who didst restore the maimed and give strength to the palsied, we praise Thee for the work of mercy which Thou didst establish and give as an abiding blessing to the world; and for the trust in behalf of humanity which Thou hast given unto us." After the benediction by Mr. Wallace, will come the formal delivery of the keys to the managers, and the opening of the main door. The attendant throng will be made up of the best people of the entire valley, and many visitors from the two cities are expected to be present.0 A feeling of deep pleasure will be manifested in faces and in expressions as the beauty, comforts and completeness of the hospital are noted. Miss Agnew, the superintendent, has been among the busy ones this week. Mrs. Gormly, Mrs. Starr, and other leading spirits have temporarily deserted home for hospital duties. As a result.the superb institution is completely ready for patients, It will be hard for to-day's guests to leave the big hospital, for at every turn therein, each will have a new and pleasing surprise. The reception room, will be especially noted. The ebony furniture, given by Mrs. L. Halsey Williams, is the embodiment of grace and utility. The sun parlor at the rear of the building will be another greatly admired place. It is safe from the hill, by reason of the stone wall, and the sunlight is mitigated by foliage on the hillside. Through the efforts of Percy, the active worker, grass is growing along the front, close to the building. On the top of the big stone wall in front, vases of foliage will stand, and at the lower or southern end of the front, the throng will admire the picturesque appearance of the hillside trees. Blackburn avenue was never cleaner, and wheh the approaching road is grown with grass, the entire front will be perfect, One of the visitors to the build ing before the formal opening, a fine-looking, elderly woman, said, impressively: "I've lived in the Sewickley valley for fifty years and I thank God I have lived to see the day when this grand hospital is done and opened for use." Then she shook hands with several of the fair officials and added: "When women like Mrs. Starr, and Mrs. Gormly," and Mrs. Rose, and Mrs. Nettleton, work for this hospital, it is bound to be run just right. Our dear ones, when ill or sick, needn't go to a Pittsburg hospital, thank the Lord!" The concluding words of the dedication will linger long in the memory of many. They are: '"Arise, 0 Lord! Put Thy name in this place, and give Thy spirit to all within it. When the suffering pray to Thee, hear thou in Heaven, Thy dwelling place; and give to them healing, and life with all comfort. Amen." Will Play at Home. The Sewickley Independents had a game scheduled for to-day at Rochester,>but it has been called off, and the Independent boys will cross bats with the East Pittsburg Athletic Glub on White field this afternoon afc 3.50. This will be a good game. Turn out and root for 'the home boys. \ J . U 'M I! in "'imya-iEMii^^ 'if. ~{_ .?.:___:—-rrAx^^z ____■
