<s. JOCT 14 1903 "Pear no man, and do fustice to all men."1 Vol. Ill SEWICKEY, PA.S SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1905 No. 5 IS INCREASING. The Sewickley Valley Business Men's Association Adding Desirable Names to Its Roster. WILL BE A BENEFIT TO ALL. The Sewickley Valley Business , Men's Association held a. meeting in Gray's Hall on Monday evening, .with about 30 members present. Some six or seven prominent business men of the Valley "added their names to the roster, and it will not be long until the entire Valley will be thoroughly canvassed. The impression that this association is merely a collection bureau is erroneous, and far from the facts of the case. While it is true that a legal and collection department will be put into active operation, it does not necessarily follow that that is what the association was founded on—far from it. ' The above department will throw a safeguard around the merchant concerning the extension of credit, and will ■place the chronic dead beat in his proper class.' It will not be a detriment to any. honest person—for every merchant in the Valley will know of. his honesty and recognize it. The principles of the association are broader ones and will have to do with things that will be of material benefit to the community, as it is from this community that the business men are drawing their pitronage. It is not the intention of the association to dabble in politics, but it will take a decisive stand in civic matters when it becomes ne6essary to rectify an evil or to combat such abuses as the "tip"' or graft system. This practice is nothing shore ol robbery. In the main it consists of butlers, coachmen arid even the house help demanding toll from tl,e merchant SEWIGKLEY GOON HUNTING CLUB'S GAMP. [Pliotos by Muegge. "fv FRANKFORT SPRINGS HOTEL, Recently Purchased by Messrs. , Merz, Ghallis & Christman, of this Place. for favoring him with their employer's trade. It is gratifying to know however, that few of our merchants have become parties to this ''hold-up" scheme. The modus operandi of this class of thievery is for the butler or coachman to approach a business man whom he has been patronizing with his employer's trade and ask for a couple of dollars, at the same time re- markingj "just charge this up as merchandise,'" This is tha most contemptible kind of robbery, and any merchant who makes himself a party to a transaction like the one stated above does not deserve to be in business. When a business man is confronted with a proposition of this kind it is his bounden duty to at once notify the employer of the existing facts. If he does we are quite sure he will not lose anything by the transaction, and (Continued on page 12') 'DAY. Sewickley Coon Hunting Club Entertained Over One Hundred .Visitors Last Sunday. SERVED A PINE GAME DINNER. The Sewickley Goon Hunting Club, which has been in camp at Frankfort Springs for two weeks, observed "Visitors' Day" last Sunday in its camp. More than one hundred guests were served with a game diuner and the feast was greatly relished. The visitors were mostly Sewickley people and it was impossible to get a conveyance at any price last Sunday. The boys have an elaborate layout and all facilities for entertaining company. It is stated that this year's camp exceeded any former outing the club has held. The boys will break camp to-day. Mr. George Muegge, to whom we are indebted for the above illustrations, took quite a number of views of the camp Fine music was furnished by Sewickley Troop Band; also by A. Merz's large graphaphone, which was part of the camp's outfit. Messrs. Merz, Ghallis & Ghristman are to be congratulated on havimg taken hold of this property, as they are all young business men who know how to push a good thing. Vast improvements will transform the place into a verv dasirable spot. There are nine different mineral springs on the property and the chemical analysis shows them to be of a high standard. While the hotel is able to accommodate gussts at any season of the year, it is expected that Frankfort Springs will be the mecca for thousands iduring the summer season. ""'N.* jgjjp-MWSj-^^
