Shields___________:______■ Come spring, Aleppo children in a Weber Road neighborhood will be playing in the township’s first official park. At a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11, Secretary Shirley Ellison; handed commissioners the final papers signed by Allegheny dounty that will permit work to begin on the Glen Mavvr Park plan as soon as weather permits. • Commissioners gave the green light to Solicitor Vincent Restauri to finish the paperwork with the county after choking the' sufficiency of insurance coverage. For creation, of the small* park, the county has earmarked $35,000 under its RIRA Program. The land was acquired by putting together several small lots on which tax liens were exonerated jointly by the township,' school district and county, . The county has already gone out for bids on the project, which includes clearing the- lots, paving of a tennis court and the installation of playground equipment and picnic facilities. Aleppo officials have been pursuing the Glen Mawr Park project since 1979. A crime watch program for Aleppo has been approved by the commissioners, The program will be coordinated by Police Officer Timothy Goletti, who attended special crime watch classes conducted .by the state. Literature will be distributed to residents and a special meeting on the subject will be set up in the near future. Commissioners hired Terry Soster of KHL Engineers Inc,, of Carnegie as township engineer. They also approved a Sewer Vactor agreement with Quaker Valley Council of Governments and an agreement to use Sewickley Borough’s jail as a holding facility, Both agreements are subject to review by the solicitor, Louis Trapizona, who heads the Police Committee, reported satisfaction with the performance of a new police officer, David Hustler. Hustler was hired temporarily to fill out the township’s force because Chief Paul Cemansky was injured on duty. Absent from the meeting because he had undergone surgery on Monday, Feb. 10, was Commissioner Pete F. Rilsso.
