JAN, 2 8 1905. Herotit. «( Pear no man» and do justice to all men," fol. II SEWICKLEY, PA., SATURDAY, JANUARY 28, 1905. No. 20 Stanley A. Watson Commits Vas Formerly a Well Known Young Clerk in This Place. EAVES AGED MOTHER IN CHELTHAM, ENGLAND. / Startling and sad was the news that reached this place early in the week announcing that Stanley A. Watson had committed suicide at Arnold, Pa., by shooting himself in the right temple with a 38-calibre revolver. Death was instantaneous. Stanley had been employed by several business men during his stay in Sewickley, and his open, frank disposition won for him many friends, and he was well thought of. The last position he held was at Knapp's pharmacy, where he had been for some time. Quite recently he became involved in some trouble about the store and his services were dispensed with. This made him morose and melancholy, and while he left no note or letter explaining his reasons for taking his life, it is probable that this was the prime reason. Stanley was twenty-three years old and leaves an aged mother and se feral sistersand brothersinGhelt- ham, England. When Stanley left this, place he went to Arnold, Pa„ where Mr. Hud S. Gampbell, of the Sewickley Art Store, who is connected with the American Window Glass Gompany, secured him a position. He had been working for the company since January 12. Stanley slept xa little later than usual Monday morning and while he was eating his breakfast the Whistle blew and he remarked to STANLEY A. WATSON, Who committed suicide at Arnold, Pa., last Monday morning. the lady with whom he was boarding that he would have to quit eating and go to work. He put on his hat and said good-bye as usual and started out. A few minutes later they heard a shot fired, but as shooting along the river is of frequent occurrence, they paid no attention to it. About nine o'clock a dairyman driving along the road saw a man lying under a tree with a revolver at his side. Upon investigation it was found to be Stanley A. Watson. The remains were taken to the police station and the coroner notified. Mr. Watson's effects showed that his father is dead and his mother and several sisters and brothers reside in Gheltham, England. The coroner deputized Mr. Hud S. Gampbell, Mr. Joseph Eady and Mr. JosephWormersley to look after the unfortunate young man's effects and to arrange the funeral. Stanley was buried in the Union cemetary at Arnold, Pa. The services were held at the rooms of J. W. Patterson, the Rev. H. S. Piper, of the Arnold M. E. church officiating. Quite a number of his his young friends were in attendance at this sad service. Confined to the House. Mr. Anthony Sonnefeld, the messenger of the First National Bank, has been confined to his home for some time with a very sore foot. He has had an operation performed and it will be some days before he will be able to resume his duties. Primary Election. No Opposition in The Second Ward. ALL DISPUTES WILL BE SETTLED. At the meeting of the borough executive committee held lastTues- day evening the ticket for to-day's election was made up. In the second ward Mr. James G. Ghaplin and Mr. T. H. Grimes failed to qualify and that left the ticket without opposition. There were some minor changes made regarding the executive committee, several men who were named failing to qualify. One was refused recognition as he violated the rules and did not present himself until after 8 o'clock and the board could not * accept his pledge. In the first ward there were several changes made on the committee and through the retirement of Mr. Barkwill, Mr. Frank R, Stoner qualified and went on the ticket in opposition to Mr. Walter Patton for council. Messrs. Ghantler and Milligan 'both qualified for school director and for these two offices there is strenuous opposition. The questions of supremacy will all be settled in a few hours. , Rembered the Firemen. Mr. James E. Brown,.of Beaver street, whose stable was recently destroyed by fire, has rewarded the members of the Gochran Hose Gompany in a very substantial manner. The letter accompanying his gift brought to light the fact that there are not a few well-thinking and influential men in the Valley who have a friendly feeling for the firemen who are ready at all times to do their best. This kind remembrance of Mr. Brown's was much appreciated and the boys herewith express their thanks. Edgeworth Primaries. On Monday evening, January SO, the Union Republicans will hold a suggestion and primary meeting in Hartling's shop, to provide candidates for the variousborough offices. •hi 1% •s N "*m ■S J L'fN i* ■ \ '■■ is IN "V".
