Republican Aspirants For the Different Borough Offices Were Suggested. WARD CONSTABLES TO BE ELECTED The Republican suggestion meeting for candidates to be nominated at the primary election which will take place Tuesday, January 28, was held in the office of Squire Allewelt last Tuesday evening. Mr. John N. White, Esq., called the meeting to order, and after making a few remarks on the rules of the Republican Executive Committee he proceeded to business. The first name presented was that of A. D. Mellinger for Auditor. Thi§»offlce was for the borough at large. Mr. John N. White was made chairman of the First ward and Mr. G. A. Rice secretary, and the following-names were presented : Council — George W. Barkwill and Walter E. Patton. School Director—Dr. I. B. Chantler and Rev. E. M. Milligan. Judge of Elections—James M. Little. Inspector of Elections—H. L. Smith and Thomas M. Drynan. Borough Executive Committee—(Six to elect)—John N. White, B. Scott McFarland. James S. Gray, Benjamin F. Campney, Gharles A Rice, Milton Knowles. D. W. McPherson, A. C. Walker, John A. Brush, H. B. Brush. Forthe Second ward Mr, James Campbell acted as chairman and Mr, Allen as secretary. The following names were presented: GounGil—Frank G, Paulson and James C, Chaplin. School Director--Joseph T. Nevin and T, H. Grimes. Judge of Elections—-Solomon Ague, Jr. Inspector of Elections—John Gaston, James Laurimore. Borough Executive Oornmitfcee-~(Five so elect)—J. P. Walker, David Curtis, W, K. Brown, D, L. There was some doubt as to the naming of ward constables, but it hasdeveloped sincethatthey should have been named, and any citizen of either ward who so desires can have his name placed on the ticket if he will comply with rule No. 11 of the borough Republican executive committee, and pay his fee to Mr. W. K. Brown before 8 P. M. next Tuesday.. S. Y. McFarland Gets Appointment. Allegheny county gets the following appointments in the House of Representatives at Harrisburg. Assistant sergeant-at-arms, S. Y. McFarland. Seventh district: postmaster, James Graham. Sixth district; assistant postmaster, W, J. McGaskey, Fifth district; pisfcer and folder, Frank Heller, Second district; janitor in coat room, John P. Milby, First district; janitors in basement, James Flinn, Third district; George Neals, Fifth distrbt. CULIAR ACCIDENT. Walter Johnston, an Electric Crane- man Paralized. Walter Johnston, an electric craneman employed at the Reiter- Gonley works at Leetsdale, was the victim of a peculiar affliction one day last week, Walter operatesone of the large electric cranes at the works and the cab in which he was stationed, in some unaccountable manner became overcharged with electricity, and resulted in a partial paralysis of his spine and limbs. Much fear was manifested concerning the recovery of the young man, but medical assistance was immediately summoned and restoratives applied and the physician in attendance states that Mr. Johnston will ultimately recover the use of his limbs. Walter is a son of Mr. James Johnston and resides with his parents on Henry avenue, and is well and favorably known among the young people of this place, who are hoping for his speedy and permanent recovery, OBITUARIES. PETER H. HUNKER. / Father of Mrs. Charles R. Hunter, of This Place. Peter H. Hunker, 82 years old, a pioneer of the confectionery business in Pittsburg, and for over 40 years one of the most prominent business men of this section, died at 10 o'clock on Tuesday morning at his home in Elliott. Death was due to old age. He was born at Garlisle, Pa., and in 1845 entered the confectionery business in Pittsburg, succeeding his brothers, J. J. and A. Hunker, who opened the Hunker confectionery at old number 98, now known as 454 Wood street, in 1832. In the early days of Mr. Hunker's career, rapid transit was unknown in this section and people came less often to Pittsburg from the country than now. Mr. Hunker's genial disposition soon made him hosts of friends, and his store finally became the place to which people went on their arrival in the city to meet their friends. Mr. Hunker was also active in other business outside of his store. He was one of the original directors of the Dollar Savings Bank of Pittsburg, the Iron Gity National Bank, of Pittsburg, and of several nsurance companies. He'was also one of the original members of the board of trustees of the Ghrist Methodist Episcopal church. He was also a member of Duquesne Chapter 546, and Minor Lodge 287 Free and Accepted Masons. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Dummit Hunker, two sons, Alfred G. Hunker, of New York, and Frank D. Hunker, of Pittsburg, and four daughters, Mrs. E. A. Brown, of New York; Mrs. William M. Hill, of Sheraden; Mrs. >Mrs. F. W. Schoonmaker, of New York, and Mrs, Gharles R. Hunter, of this piace. (Continued on page 9.)
