' - ’ According to Sewickley Chief Walter J. Brannon, the following, establishments were involved: -Select Market; Beaver and Division streets; Barkus Bakery, 505 Broad St.; and Lerza’s Restaurant, 518 Locust Place. The culprits used a crow bar to gain entry: The break-ins occurred sometime betweenmidnightand6:38p.m. on April 1, The entries were discovered as employees or owners of the establishments arrived for work. The burglars made off with $100 from Lerza’s. An as-yet undetermined amount of cash was stolen from Select, where the cash registers were pried open with the crow bar. However, Chief Brannon said Lerza’s suffered die most damage in the burglaries. Also burglarized the same evening was Pizza Roma, at 426 Beaver St. But here, police theorize the burglary might be Unrelated to the other three. Although money was taken, the store was not forceably entered, police said. According to Sewickley Mayor Marie G. Guy, the crimes are still under investigation. County police have joined with the Sewickley Police Department to help in the task, Chief Brannon said. The Herald asked Mayor Guy the question many residents and merchants have been asking: How were the burglars able to break into the businesses in full view of anyone passing on the streets of the village.
