fcPMig Xerolfc " Pear no man, and do justice to all men." Vol. Ill SEWICKLEY, PA., SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 1906 No. 21 Suggestion Meeting. Republicans of the Borough Name Candidates for the Various Offices. A HARMONIOUS GATHERING. Mr. W. K. Brown, chairman of the Republican Borough Executive Gommittee, called the suggestion meeting to order on Monday evening.- Gray's hall was well filled, both wards being well represented. It was a congenial affair and did not "savor of the "primed and cocked" variety of politics, but led one to believe that our citizens were really desirous of having good conscientious men represent them in the various offices. Mr. Joseph Knox was elected chairman, and Mr. G. D. Richard- sonv presided as secretary. The first business after the chairman read the rules governing the meeting was the naming of a burgess. There was only one name presented for .this office, which was that of Mr. Joseph W. Graig. Mr. John Johnston was named to succeed himself as Justice of the Peace. For Tax Collector, the name of Mr. Sylvester G. Ritchey, the present incumbent, was placed on the list. Mr-.- Gharles A. Rice was then named for Auditor. This concluded the list of borough offices at large and the meeting was then given over to the First ward voters who .organized by electing Mr. B. F. Gampney chairman. The. first names presented were for councilman. They were A. H. Diehl, J. D. Miller and D. W. McPherson, mMth JOHN HARBISON. For School Director, one .year, came the names of George M. Kunkle and Thomas M. Erwin. For School Director, three years, was heard the names of J. G. Venning, E. S. Graig and John N. White, at present a member of the board. Mr. Robert Wharton was named for Gonstable, but says he has no ambition in this line and will not qualify. For Judge of Elections James Little and G. F. Barkwill were named; for Inspector of Elections, W. H. Parkin and Ward Foy. Then followed the naming of candidates for the Borough Executive Gommittee, six to elect, James S. Gray, B. F. Gampney, Don Rose, Vernon Gharnley, G. D. Richardson, John Brush, Roland Miller, S. Y; McFarland, W. E. Patton and John N. White. The Second ward voters then took charge and elected Mr. Joseph McGlurg chairman. This gentleman demurred a bit but finally consented to act, and put things through in his usual genial way. There,' was plain sailing as no opposition appeared, as the following will show: Gouncil—J. G. Ghaplin. School Director—J. B. Reno. Judge of Elections—S. Ague. Inspector of Elections—F. A. Drynan, Harvey Eaton. Borough Executive Gommittee— Paul J. Quinn, J. P. Walker, W. K. Brown, A. G. Drynan, D. L. S. Neely, G. A. Rice, D. S. Wolcott, Jr„ and F. K. Wnite. Just how many of those named will qualify is not known other than that Mr. J. G. Venning has withdrawn his name and will not stand as a candidate. All who were named have until Tuesday evening to qualify, and, judging from present indications, there may be only one candidate for each office. Winners Defeated. The Midget A. G. defeated the Winners on the Y. M. G. A. alleys, on Thursday evening by seventy pins. The total scores were—Midgets, 1,792; Winners, 1,722.
