Only one absentee was noted at the regular meelingof Edgeworth Gouncil on Monday evening. After the usual routine to clear the clerk's docket, Gouncil took up the various matters presented for their consideration. Among them was an ordinance for the opening of Beaver road, which was passed finally. The members of the Edgeworth Volunteer Fire Gompany had a committee present and presented a proposition concerning a bell for the new hose house. The firemen are taking a great interest in their organization and are not afraid to hustle to bring their company into the front ranks of suburban fire departments. The boys have consented to purchase an alarm bell if Council will stand the expense of placing it and furnish the necessary equipment to put it into active service. As the borough officials believe in encouraging the firemen the request was granted and hearty co-operation promised. Gouncilman Herz was also authorized to procure bids for the lining of the hose tower. A letter was received from Mr. Laughlin, of the Edgeworth Water Gompany pertaining to fire hydrants on Woodland road. It was shown on expert advice that by procuring three-quarter inch nozzles 'these plugs would give efficient service. Mr. McGullough, of the committee on fire and police was instructed to procure the same. Upon the recommendation of Street Commissioner Buckley, Gouncil decided to purchase several car loads of slag for use on the streets. Mr. Updegraff, of the Edgeworth Electric Gompany, was present and presented a plan and asked for permission to place poles on certain roads and lanes of the borough. The request was granted. There was no report from the committee appointed some time ago to take up the garbage question with the Sewickley Borough council. Before adjourning the name of Mr, Gharles Davis was presented as a successor to Mr. James Booth on the Board of Health. The appointment was made. Is Improving.
