The Bond Issue and Garbage Furnace Questions Taken Up and Duly Considered. OSBORNE BOROUGH AUTHORITIES FILE OBJECTIONS. A special meeting of the Sewickley Borough Gouncil was called on Tuesday evening of this week, all members being present except Mr. R. R. Brown. The ordinance providing for the issue of bonds to the. extent of $40,000, to liquidate outstanding debts to that amount, was passed upon third and final reading. The new bonds will bear interest at 4 per cent., one per cent, lower than the ones which they will liquidate. Mr. Frank,G. Paulson, as chairman of the committee for the improvement of methods used in the disposal of garbage gave his report to Gouncil. Of the three sites at all suitable, known as the—first, Water Works site; second, White property site; and third, the Gibb's site; all three below the railroad and near the river. The one on the Gibb's property, near the Quaker Valley line, was recommended by the committee. A communication was read from the Glen Osborne authorities, in which they showed,a determination to fight any attempt to place the furnace on the Water Works site,, as it is in their borough. The powers of the committee were continued and enlarged to such an extent that they are to proceed to secure,a site—either by purchase or condemning of same, and to let the contract for the erection of a suitable garbage furnace on this site. The intention of the Council being to erect the furnace immediately upon securing the -site, . Several complaints were presented to the Burgess, who in turn will present them to the proper author ities connected with the Pennsylvania Lines, running_ through the Borough. They were—first, unnecessary whistling through the borough; second, -blocking of crossings by standing freights; and third, unsatisfactory, methods in which Ghestnut street crossing is guarded. Gouncil then adjourned to meet next Tuesday. Edgeworth Council. The regular session of the Edge- worth Gouncil was held Monday evening. President Lord, who had been absent from the Borough for some time, was in his accustomed seat. Glerk Fleming Nevin called the roll, and Messrs. Booth, Herz, Brooks and McGullough responded. Solicitor W. D. N. Rogers was present to steer the "Village dads" clear of legal snags, and they proceeded to get right down to business. The matter of adjusting and widening Highland avenue was taken up on request, and the solicitor was instructed tjq, draw up an ordinance to that effect. The bid of Baton & Elliott' for a survey for the proposed sewerage system and the establishing of street grades was accepted. It is understood that the work will begin on this shortly, although little can be done in the way of laying sewers before spring. The Edgeworth Water Gompany was given permission to open the street to lay a water line. ■ Several members of the Volun teer Fire Department were present and presented a request to have Gouncil furnish the new hose house for them. The request was granted, and the proper committee will look after the purchasing of the proper articles to make the "fire laddies" comfortable. The Gommittee on Police cwas instructed to purchase electric torches for the officers of the force. A letter was received from the Village Improvement Society, asking-the co-operation of Gouncil in enforcing certain ordinances relative to the throwing of rubbish, paper, etc., on the public highways. This communication was acknowledged and assistance promised. Ordinance Nos. 18 to 30 inclusive, relative to the laying out and opening of certain thoroughfares were passed on third and final reading, and will be found published in detail on pages ten and eleven of this issue of the Herald. Adjourned.. MOVING PICTURES!' TO The Business Men's Association of the Sewickley Valley Hold an Interesting Session. A Magnificent Series Reproduced with all the Realism of Life. On Friday and Saturday evenings, October 6 and 7, at 8.15 o'clock in the School Auditorium, will be given two" of the best moving picture entertainments ever given anywhere. They will be given under the auspices of the Young Men's Ghristian Association. The ad- mission will be 15 and 25 cents. Program will change each evening. On Saturday afternoon there will be a matinee at 2.30 for the children. The story of "Jack and the Bean Stalk" is the title, and it is a wonderful and realistic entertainment. Be sure and send the children. Meeting of Male Chorus. The regular monthly meeting of the Male Ghorus will be held'on Monday evening, October 2, in the Assembly Room of the Y, M. G. A. As this is the first meeting of the year a full attendance is earnestly desired. On Monday evening a special meeting of the Business Men's Association of the Sewickley Valley was held in Gray's hall, Beaver street. The association is now permanently organized- and the president appointed various committees to take up certain affairs of interest to its members. In the course of a month or so it is expected that things will be working smoothly and from the interest being manifested so far there is no doubt but what this association will be a help to its members and the community. There are about sixty names on the roster and at Monday evening's meeting there were some, thirty odd merchants present. It is hoped that every business man in the Valley will eventually become" a member of this organization. Pvery merchant in this community who has acquired anything, certainly received it here in the Valley and it is then his duty .to assist this organization in "booming" the home town and helping :to rectify certain evils that exist. There was some valuable information presented along this line at the last meeting and there is still more to follow. These affairs will be taken up from time to time and combatted in an intelligent and united manner and an effort made to eradicate them* If you are not a member you should be. No Congestion There. The freight yards at the Sewickley station presented a deserted appearance last Sunday. It is unusual to have these tracks deserted, and it was quite noticeable. As a rule there is a conges* unto of rolling stock at this point. s \ \
