The number is toll id may be reached by dialing 1*800- With the easement of fuel curtailment by Columbia Gas and milder temperatures, Quaker Valley School Superintendent Dr. Leroy L. Kite is hoping the regular school day schedule will soon be resumed. (Quaker Valley went back on schedule, Tuesday, March 1.) Reporting to the Board of Directors February meeting, Kite said that he and Director Timothy W. Merrill, Jr., are continuing to work with Columbia in their aim to keep the school year going without further interruption. To date, the administrator said, , the elementary school has missed eight days and4he secondary 14, because of the fuel crisis. In that time, secondary teachers worked four days in a maximum temperature of 50 degrees. The staff, students, maintenance force and aides had the compliments of the administrator for their carry-on attitude despite the "adverse conditions” of the past weeks. “To the maintenance force, the saving of fuel was their personal challenge.” Later in the meeting, during the financial report, Dr. Kite noted the fuel adjustment cost on the Columbia Gas statement was a $3,000 increase over last year, ' (The fuel cost adjustment was set up to let utility companies recover increased fuel costs without the formality of a rate increase hearing. However, the adjustment is limited to the actual increased cost, and the utility firms are not permitted to make a profit on it.) Going on to the loss of Sewickley and 1-79 Bridges in relation to QV, Kite told of the local ad hoc committee whose concern is the replacement or repair of Sewickley Bridge. ‘ ‘I felt compelled to be a part of the committee of which Mrs. Sybo is also a member, and I joined on behalf of the faculty. At fifty cents per mile to run the buses, QV is feeling the financial impact of the bridge closing.” The administrator also told the meeting that QV “missed out” on being selected as one of the first participants in the state’s educational Project-81. However, he said die University of Pittsburgh is working in conjunction with the state on the project and has invited QV to participate in the university program. Quaker Valley School directors rejected the only bid for the Leet Township School property in the amount of $4,000 submitted by the Leet Township Board of Commissioners. The director’s action at their February meeting was based on the recommendation of the Support Services Committee. Commenting on the recommendation, Director Josephine H. Sybo said, “We did not think the bid adequate,” On the authority of the state code, the property will be sold through licensed real estate brokers with the payment of commission on an acceptable offer; final To this, acting administrative assistant George Arbutina added that QV will select key resource people from the district to take part in four seminars at the University. The sessions will deal with basic skills and how they influence the life roles of children. A final report from QV business coordinator Joan S. Hoopes touched on the coop program which the district recently joined. The program involves other Allegheny County schools; its purpose is to cut expenses through bulk purchasing. One example of cost cutting is in delivery of orders. Rather than items being trucked by the supplier to each building, QV will make its own deliveries from a single drop at the Edgeworth building. approval of the transaction is made by Common Pleas Court. The amount of the commission, as recommended by Director Shirley Barker, is open for negotiation and is not to exceed six per cent. With the understanding that she can not be compensated, Mrs. Barker, a real estate salesperson for a local firm, stated her intent to find a buyer for the property. The director reasons that if she can negotiate the sale it would be to the advantage of the school district in that the commission would be retained by Quaker /alley.
