Nimick, finance 'chairman, cstrif“! a 9 5 mil? ruf. Presented at QV’s April 26 meeting, the budget also uliiniimtCS die ?lu pci Capita taX. Based on 1978-79 assissments, QV property taxes will be 55% mills. This is the second consecutive year for a-tax break. In 1977, the budget allowed a two mill reduction. Both the wage tax and deed transfer tax were retained. Describing the $6,080,752 budget as “having no frills1', Nimick said that while expenditures were reasonable, it allowed the teachers to do their work. According to the finance chairman’s 1 figurés, seven percent of the budget represents salary increases and there is the rising cost of materials. -• To further improve QV’s financial picture, Nimick said that the board will continue to work on the collection of some $33,000 in delinquent taxes. Serving with the finance chairman are Directors Josephine Sybo, Timothy Merrill, Jr. and Thomas R. Wright. The budget is available in the administration office, Edgeworth School building, Chestnut Road. Art missing at Hospital Sewickley Hospital has a mystery on its hands. Over the weekend of April 22, two art works disappeared from the walls of the new wing of .the. hospital* A third disappeared about two months ago, but hospital personnel did not report the incident believing the painting had been removed tv another area of the hospital. One of the two that disappeared last weekend was a tapestry entitled “Lava”, by Mae Amsler. Valued at $1000, it had been presented to the hospital by the artist when the new wing was oppened in l.977. The Amsler work was designed with white clouds in blue sky at the top if the tapestry. Below that, one bold red line flows through a deep charcoal field. The tapestry hung at the top of the stairs at the Ambulatory Care Center. One of local artist Ruth Hess’s paintings, entitled “Pittsburgh Hillside” was removed from the Emergency Waiting Room. , “Violets” is the-title of the painting by Penny Russell which disappeared from the Ambulatory Care Center Lobby earlier. v Mystified by such acts, the Hospital authorities have removed all the paintings from the walls of the new wing until such. time as they can be bolted, securely to the ."wall. , , In the meantime, the Hospital Administration is offering a $100 reward 'fob the recovery of the paintings. ONLY TEMPORARY but just in town is this Bailey Bridge over the Big Sewickley Creek at Willow Street. The span was erected by the U.S, Engineers Corps to accomodate traffic to 68-homes in Harmony Twp. whose only — Valley Road — is in danger of sliding into the creeks On April 10, Leet Twp. agreed to permit Harmony Twp. to erect a permanent bridge downstream at the corner of Ambridge Ave. and Main St. (A Herald Photo) House Tour 1 draws big crowd here A record crowd is expected to attend the Sewickley House Tour today. Tickets Loyalty Day Parade Saturday The 14th Annual Loyalty Day Parade will be held in Sewickley on Saturday, May 6, starting at 6:30 p.m, The parade is sponsored each year by the Donald T< Campbell Post 5726 Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary. The parade this year is again a competition to be judged by>the Great Lakes Judging Assn. The parade is sanctioned by the West Penn Baton and Drum Association, as in previous years. The parade will begin at Broad and Thorn Street, down Thorn, to Grant, up Grant to Beaver, down Beaver to the reviewing área at Broad and Beaver Sts. The Grand Marshal for the parade will be Col. John P. Lednak from Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. The Assistant Grand Marshal will be his son, Captain John P. Lednak Jr, also from Andrews Air Force Base. Other special guests will be the Jr. vice-commander of the Department of Pennsylvania, Anthony Longo, Sr., vice-president of Pennsylvania, Rita Graff, and Past National Officer, Audrey Copeland. The lineup for the parade is as follows: Sewickley Police Escort; Loyalty Day Banner; District Commander Robert McGiaugiin; District President Anne McKrell and officers, Allegheny County Council President and Officers; Allegheny bounty Council Commander and Officers; Mayor William Gourley, Sewickley Council and the Sewickley Board 5*. The tour is the nineteenth sponsored by the Child Health Association of Sewickley. This year, five houses, three in Edgeworth and two on the Heights, will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p,.m. Traffic is expected to be heavy along the tour route and in the. vicinity of the Allegheny Country Club, the Edgeworth Club, Shields Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Church, Sewickley, where luncheons will be served. The Senior Citizens Club of Sewickley will meet on Thursday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m. in the American Legion Post Home, 246 . Broad St. for a covered dish luncheon. Post 462 Jr. Girl Unit; Vanguards Sr, Baton A Drum Corp Penn Hills Pa.; Silvcrton All-Brass Local Police and Sewickley residents working together led to the arrest of three Aliquippa Juveniles in an attempted purse snatch on April 28, at 1:15 p.m. According to the report, Mrs. Helen Quinn, 722 Broad, and Miss Dorothy Warner, 611 Broad, were accosted by the boys at the corner of Beaver and Grant Streets. In the first attempt, Miss Warner was pushed to the ground. When this was unsuccessful, there was a second try to wrest Mrs. Quinn’s purse from her hand. While Neal Rapp of 406 Peebles gave Chase to one of the youths, Richard D. Brown, 805 Hill Street, called police. One of the suspects was picked up by Sewickley officer David Deremer while cruising the Chadwick Street area with the two victims. At 2:10 on the same day, Officer Ronald Paul and Bell Acres officer James Dempsey radioed to headquarters that they had caught a second suspect near the Community Center. I.ater in the day, a third youth was taken into custody by Aliquippa police. All three were charged with Simple assult, robbery, criminal attempt, criminal conspiracy, A detention hearing is scheduled, Commenting on the ease, Sewickley police chief Walter J. Brannon credited the work of the residents and the quick response of police from Leetsdale-Car 42, Chief Michael Poninsky; Leet Township-car 30, Chief James Graham; Bell Acres chief Melvin McCullough and officer James Dempsey who was off duty at the time. Water commissioners set meeting Sewickley water commissioners will meet May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building.
