Seated left to right are Mrs. J. C. Grupp, Franklin Township Community Chairman; Mrs. Elmer W. Aebi, Franklin Township District Chairman; Mrs. Madeline Dornburg, Ohio Township Community Chairman; Mrs. Samuel Law, Bradford Woods Community Chairman; Mrs. William Jenkinson, .Northwestern Section Area Four Chairman and Mrs. C. F. Mittlestadt, Franklin Township Community Co- Chairman. Announcement of the appointments was made by George Heard, Chairman of Area Two of the Northwestern Section of which the eight communities are a 1008 Students Enroll For Winter Semester In Sewickley Public Schools Grade School Enrollment Drops While High School Receives More Students The Sewickley Schobl Board, at its regular meeting on Monday, September 12th, ratified die employment of two teachers in the grade school and two teachers in die high school; accepted' with regret the resignations of Mr. George Bemhardy, shop teacher, who accepted a position in Miami, Florida; and Mr. William Zeralsky, biology instructor, who left to accept a position in the Nyack school, New York City; elected Dr. George E. Riegel to the position of school doctor; gave permission to die Young Woman’s Civic Club to present a fashion show in the high school auditorium on Friday evening, November 11; gave permission to the ‘ supervising principal and to the two ’school principals to attend their respective principal’s meetings during September and October; and to a member of the English department of the high school to attend the National Council of Teachers of English in New York during Thanksgiving vacation. More Workers Appointed Eight district residents have been appointed Community Chairmen for Sewickley, Glen Osborne, - Sewickley Heights, Edgeworth, Leetsdale, Fair Oaks, Sewickley Township and Glen- part. Lore, of 960 Beaver Road, has accepted the post as Se- Seven Graduate From Sewickley Valley Hospital School Of Nursing Thirty-Fifth Annual Commencement Held Thursday- at St. Stephen s Church Seven nursing students receive their diplomas and pins at the thirty-fifth annual commencement of the Sewickley Valley Hospital School of Nursing on Thursday, September 8til at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. They were Isolde Jane Betcher of Avalon; Katherine Ann Dull,’ Aliquippa; Mary Jane Lohnes, Carnegie; Helen Leona McNees, Coraopolis; Catherine Claire Singer, Corao-ne Spehar, Ambvidge; Louise Ellen Wimer, Houston, polis; Marianne Pa. (Story and Picture on Page 3) wickley Community Chairman. She will be in charge of the Business Section, and F. C. Pafford, of Grant Street, will act as Co-chairman in charge of the Residential Section. J. W. Wickwire, 1207 Beaver Rd., will act as Chairman ,of the Glen Osborne Community. J. M. Thornton, of Blackburn Road, is Chairman of the Sewickley Heights Community. John P. Townsend, of Quaker Road, has accepted the post as Edge-worth Community Chairman. Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Beaver Road, will act as Chairman of Leetsdale Community. The community of Fail' Oaks will be headed by Mrs. R. W. Hoffman as chairman. She resides at 45 Plum Street. Mrs. J. D. Holman of Camp Meeting Road, will lead the Drive in Sewickley Township as Community Chairman. Glenfield Community will be beaded by Mrs. W. B. Tiernan of Hill Road. The Community Chest of Allegheny County will conduct its Campaign this year during the month of October 9 through November 10. The goal this year is $5,775,000. A member of the mathematics department of the high school will be permitted to attend the National convention in Milwaukee in April and Mrs. Bretz and Miss Burkhouse’s request to attend the Association for Childhood Education in Washington, D. C., near Easter time, 1956, was granted. The board approved the assignment of Victor Bolin to serve on the Evaluation Committee at Moon High School, and William Baetz to serve on the same sort of committee at Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh. Enrollment comparison between September, 1954 and September, 1955 was shown. In tire grade school, including, kindergarten and otlio-genic class, the total enrollment this fall is ^29 compared to last year’s enrollment of 555. This year there are 54 tuition students in the grade school compared with 52 last year. In the junior-senior high school the total enrollment for 1955 is 479, compared to last year’s total of 450. This year there are 169 tuition students in the high school compared to a 1954 total of 167. Totals for both schools show an enrollment of 1008 this fall, with 223 tuition students. A representative of the Arsenal Coal Yard, successful bidders for the school coal contract, was a guest at the meeting. He stated that in order to avert a strike in September it was necessary to grant a raise, and asked the board to approve an increase in the contract price of 30c per ton. The solicitor stated that the school district lias a definite binding contract with the coal company to deliver coal for $5.95 per ton, and .questioned the power of the board to alter a legal contract. The solicitor was asked to pursue the matter, and to find out what others are doing who have the same problem, and to report to the property committee. George Arbutina, Jr., was approved to teach the orthogenic class.
