Lupinacci of National Guard Former Resident of Sewickley Colonel' Vincent P. Lupinacci, commanding officer, 218th AAA Group, Pennsylvania National Guard, who will speak at the annual Memorial Day Exercises at the Public School on Friday, is a former resident of Sewickley. For. many years, until several months ago, he made his home on Blackburn Avenue. Colonel Lupinacci was born, in Pittsburgh on January 22, 1905; attended school there and graduated from Allegheny High School in 1922 and the University of Pittsburgh in 1926 with B.S. Degree. He began his military career in 1926, when he was commissioned a second lieutenant through the ROTC. In 1929 he was promoted to lieutenant and in 1933 to Captain in the Reserves. From 1935 to 1937, he served as Captain on duty with the Civilian Conservation Corps and entered military service at Fort Monroe, Virginia, in- 1940. In Sep- j tember of ’41, he was promoted to major at. Fort Eustis, Va., as commanding offi- Sewickley Valley Post No. 4, American Legion and Honorary Commander of the Day will be William McElravy, Valley Camp No. 127, United Spanish War Veterans. The parade will proceed up Broad Street from the Postoffice, where it forms, to Thorn Street, west on Thorn to Grant, north on Grant to Beaver, east on Beaver through the business section, to Peebles, Raymond A. , Tucker Raymond A. Tucker, of Cqmpmeeting Road, chairman of the air activities committee of the Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, will be master of ceremonies of the dedication of the 33 million dollar Greater Pittsburgh Airport at 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. A luncheon will be held at 11:45 a. m. in the huge dining room of the terminal for visiting dignitaries, to start off the festivities. A feature of the' dedication expected to attract many thousands of visitors is the' most comprehensixe exhibits of military and private aircraft ever assembled. They will be on display, free of charge, as a feature of the dedication. Visitors will be able to see at close range the Air Force’s F-86 North American Sabre Jet; the T-6, trainer; the Pennsylvania Air Guards’ F-51 North American Mustang Fighter; tlie Air Force’s F-84 Republic Thunder Jet; the F-89 Northrup Scorpion; the Army’s L-19 Cessna Liaison; the L-20 deHavilland Beaver and the L-23 Beech Twin Bonzana; the Navy’s F2H McDonald Banshee, F-9F, Grumman Panther; F3D, Douglas Sky Knight, A-J-I, North American Savage, and the P2V, Lockheed Neptune, and possibly the Army’s F-94 Lockheed and C-124 Douglas Transport, as well as the Bureau of Aeronautics’ K-225 Kaman Helicopter and F-&U-1 Chance Vaught Cutlass. Besides the military planes, there will be an interesting cross-section of private aircraft provided through the courtesy of the aircraft manufacturers and local dealers. Included are the Bqech . In April, he returned to War College and took advanced AA course, then was assigned to AA groups in California and Texas, returning to Europe in July, 1944. He served in England, France, Belgium, Czechoslovakia and Germany and was Separated from the service in January, 1946. In April, 1947, lie was appointed colonel in charge of the 218th AA group, which position he still occupies. His decorations include the Bronze Star with cluster, pre-Pearl Harbor ribbon and American Defense ribbon, as well as the Victory medal, German medal and the Croix de Guerre with palm. The Memorial Day program, which will be th£ seventy-second for the Valley, will be under the auspices of Valley Camp No. 127, United Spanish War Veterans; Sewickley Valley Post 4, American Legion; Donald T. Sound Next Wednesday All tlie whistles, sirens, bells and other sound-making devices will be given a test in tlie Valley and all over the county on Wednesday, ’ June ‘ 4th, at noon in a county-wide Civil Defense siren and warning test. For three minutes or so1, it’ll sound like New Year’s Eve at midnight, but the difference will be in the reason for sounding off. At New Year’s Eve, it is to celebrate the beginning of a new year, but if the air raid sirens are sounded for the real thing, it will be the beginning of another world war, Civil Defense Co-ordinator Ross Leff-ler urged that “all available sirens and whistles, such as fire sirens, railway, loco-(Continued on Page 20) Flowers will be placed on the graves of veterans at the cemetery and the ceremony of ‘Taps’ will be played at the cemetery. Girl Scouts To March Intermediate and Senior Girl Scout Leaders Notified Of Schedule The Intermediate and Senior Girl Scout Troops are to form at St. James Field, Broad Street, Sewickley, at 2 p. m. for the Memorial Day Parade, Friday, May 30, 1952. The parade moves, prompdy at 2:30 p. m. Practice in marching for all Girl Scouts will be held, Wednesday evening, May 28th, and Thursday evening, May 29th, at 7:30 p. m., at St. Stephen’s Parish House, Frederick Avenue. Girl Scouts, Memorial Day Co. Nellie C. Maruca Guardsman Learn Fire-Fighting Sgt.
