Buzard, 620 Blackburn Ave-re, Assistant Secretary, who recently as appointed Officer in charge of the iwickley Office, last Tuesday was made sistant vice-president of the Peoples Ir’st National Bank and Trust Company, charge of the Sewickley Office. Mr. uzard graduated from business College Rochester, New York, in 1917 and llisted in the armed services as a buck •ivate in World War I. He served for ro years, one of which was in France, e was discharged an officer in the eavy Field Artillery in 1919, at which me he began his banking career with e National Bank of Brookville. After nine years’ service there, he ansferred to the Sewickley Valley Trust impany in 1928 and immediately en-lled in night classes at the University Pittsburgh. After completing courses Investments, Credits, Trust Functions id Bank Management, he was made assistant secretary and trust officer of tlie Sewickley Valley Trust Company. Those1 positions were held until the recent unexpected death of Mr. J. K. Webster; when he was made executive officer of the Sewickley Office. Mr. Buzard has served as secretary, vice president and president of the Kiwanis Club of Sewickley and at present is a member of the Board of Directors. He serves as treasurer, without pay, of the Sewickley Borough' Schools, the Edgeworth Borough Schools, the Edgeworth - Sewickley Heights' Joint School, the Haysville Borough School. Haysville Borough and Aleppo Townships Schools. A member of the Board of Trustees of tlig Sewickley Methodist Church, he is art active member of the Sewickley'Y.M.C.A. and was Treasurer of the recent successful Sewickley Valley Harvest Festival. Santa Coming to Town In order that no resident of this district will have to take their small, and not so small, children to Pittsburgh to see Santa Claus’ representatives who are in the department stores between now and Christmas, Santa will be in Sewickley. The ol’ gent with the white whiskers will be under his canopy at the borough park at Beaver and Broad streets on three Saturdays in December as well as Monday; Tuesday and Wednesday of the week before Christmas. His appearance here will be sponsored by the Sewickley Valley Board of Trade and his gift bag will be bulging with candy canes and cellophane wrapped popcorn balls contributed by the civic-minded subscribers to the Board of Trade’s Christmas fund, augmented by contributions from the business firms of Sewickley. These contributions also pay for the Christmas decorations on the streets, with the exception of the large community Christmas tree, which is secured and lighted by the Borough. The Board will also offer prizes to members for the best decorated windows in the business section. There will be three prizes in the merchandise windows and three in the decorative class. The Christmas committee of the Board met recently with the directors of the Board of Trade to discuss the possibilities of improving the street, decorations to provide a more Christmasy atmosphere during the holidays. Christmas music will be broadcast over the Methodist Church Tower Music loudspeaker from records donated jointly by the Sewickley Kiwanis Club and the Board of Trade. Economy League Head and County | Superintendent To Discuss Proposed School Jointure j School Directors And Residents of the II Districts Invited to ’Meeting at Sewickley High School A public meeting, to 'which all residents and school directors of the eleven boroughs and townships included in the study and report made by the Pennsylvania Economy League are invited, will be held | at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday evening, December 3 in the Sewickley High School Auditorium. N. L.'Elwell, head of the League for Western Pennsylvania, will explain the League’s report as he did preliminarily on October 28 to the Directors of the four boards that re-j quested the report, namely, Edgeworth, Osborne, Sewickley and Sewickley Heights. ! Dr. A.. W. Beattie, Superintendent of the Allegheny County Schools, will also attend the meeting and speak at the meeting after Mr. Elwell has explained the League’s report. Dr. Beatttie may have some alternative suggestions to make for future consideration, but will not argue them, except as may be necessary in answer to questions that may be addressed to him by School Directors and members of the public, according to the formal invitation sent to the presents of the school boards by Paul N. Critchlow, president of the Sewick-j ley School Board and president of the Joint Standing Committee that requested the report be made. Community Calendar •Thursday, November 27 11 a. m. Community Thanksgiving Day Service in the Sewickley United Presbyterian Church. In his letter, Mr. Critchlow stated that the League has mailed copies of the report to all members of each of the school districts. They are: Edgeworth, Glen-field, Haysville, Leetsdale, Osborne and Sewickley borough school districts and Aleppo, Leet, Ohio, Sewickley Heights and Sewickley Township school districts. Mr. Critchlow’s letter continues by stating that after both speakers have addressed the meeting, they will both endeavor to answer any questions that may .be addressed to them, first, by the school directors and then by any citizen who may attend the meeting, which will be open to the public. Calling of the public meeting was authorized by the Sewickley School Board at its meeting on November 17th. At that meeting, Supervising Principal Harold S. Irons presented data on what the probable high school enrollment will be when the present resident pupils in grades four and below, reach high school. By placing the. present resident pupils in grade four in the twelfth grade position and the third grade in eleventh grade and continue with the numbers revealed in the census of pre-school children, it is learned that about 470 resident pupils will be in the high school. That compares with the 475 resident and non-resident pupils now in the high school. Sewickley pupils can be cared (Continued on Page 22) Child Health Association's Melody Ball To Be Held Saturday Night At Edgeworth Club Economy League Report Proposes To :inance High School by Authority State Aid Would Pay Most of the Annual Cost Of A Million Dollar Building, The portion of the Economy League’s Report dealing with the aancing of the proposed new senior high school cites Act 626 and | 57 which together permits school districts to form a local school s Hiding authority which may individually or jointly build, enlarge, ¡novate, equip and buy land for schools and provides a formula of ¡imbursement whereby the State pays part of the annual rental each hool district pays to’the local authority. .Thus for a million dollar nior high school the gross annual rental for 40 years at 2% per cent terest, for the 11 districts would amount to $38,177, of which the ate would pay $6,514 for reimbursement of rental; $27,609 as a mus subsidy for jointure or a total of $34,123, leaving but $4,054 ■ be paid by the 11 districts annually. Since the reimbursement fractions are Iferent for each school district, bower, there is a considerable difference the state aid each district would reive. For instance, Aleppo Township would owe $801 annually in rental, but Would receive a total of $1,102 in state hid, gaining’ $801 or .5 of a mill each year.
