McAvoy, District School Nurse Her invaluable work is supported by the local sale of Christmas Seals Ofyc Christmas Seals’ Work irt Sewickley MRS- McAvoy, to whose salary seventy per cent' of the money raised by the sale of Christmas Seals in Sewickley goes, has well proved her Worth to this community in the six years she has been here, As truant officer for Sewickley public schools, she is at the school office every morning, notes the absentees and goes to the homes of those whose failure to come seems to need investigating, usually from three to a dozen%ach day. At the home she finds whether the child is sick, and the nature of the sickness, and also notes whether other members of the family are ill, and conditions generally; if they are in Want, or need help of any kind, she is able to extend not only helpful advice but more material assistance through the Union Aid Society or other means. As deputy health officer she sees that proper precautions are taken where there is contagious disease or where conditions are bad. And as district school nurse she gives active help herself, day or night as need requires, sees that children needing medical advice or attention get it, and is in general a wonderfully effective force in keeping up the MERRY CHRISTMAS community’s health. Her work is quietly done and few know much about it; but she is looked to by many a family as a valued friend and adviser and helper, and it is hard to believe that we could ever again be content to dispense with such services as she renders. The committee in charge of the Tuberculosis Fund is aiming this year to make enough to pay all of Mrs. McAvoy’s salary, $1,500. Heretofore the Christmas Seal money has not been quite enough. Everybody is asked to give as generously as they can; the Seals will be on sale at the Post Office two weeks before Christmas, in charge of Mrs. George C. Hutchinson and Mrs. Ledlie. Young. The general committee in charge: Mrs. Robert Standish, Mrs. Kinley J, Tener, Miss Mary Oliver, Miss Katherine Hold-ship, Miss Lillian Rose, Mrs. John Wigton, Miss Margaret Ramsburg, Miss Elizabeth Hays, Mrs. Frank Darlington, Miss Isabel Adams, Miss Mary Scaife, Mrs. John T.
