T ■■.i))i)l"p » r< ; i * .The Sewickley Cemetery, always serene, has taken on a new beauty, now, for the leaves on the hundreds of trees are changing color, At the soldior's monument, the four cannons, ivy covered, aro scarlet. Trees all up and down the hillsido aro covered with yellow, reel brown or green leaves. Far Off, the distant hills aro veiled by the autumn hazo and just below, Sewickley nestles at the foot of tho hill, its marty trees a riot of color. Tlie grass in the cemetery is still green and many flowers on the graves bloom luxuriantly. Crimson ivy, with rv the small brown berries, envelopes the trunks of evergreens in a fiery spiral and droops from the branches, making a beautiful contrast with the darker green of the evergreen needles. Hero,and thero a faded banner hangs limp over the grave of a veteran, contributing to tho soft, sad feeling of fall. Now -and then, a sharp blast of- chilly air sweeps up out of the Valley and the frost pnintod leaves flutter noiselessly to tho ground, symbols of Nature's six month sleepX* Many improvement- have been gradu ally made in the cemtery in the past year. Tho entranco from Hopkins Streot has boon widened to a two car width, by tho expedient of cutting into tho hillside on the upper sido of tho road and dumping the dirt along tho lower side of tho road. Tho turn on to Upper Broad Street is no longer so dangorous, as a car has sufficient room to mako the loop. Beyond tho steps, workmon have beon working for soveral weeks cutting into tho hillsido and at present arc within a hundrod yards of the horseshoe curve, which Was widened last year. The whole job of cutting away tho hillside, filling in the lower side of tho road and laying a new brick gutter on the upper side, is expected to be finished this fall. In order to make room for more burial plots in the old Section of the eeinc- tory, Charles "Winters, superintendent, has had a terrace leveled out of tho hillsido just behind the soldier's monument. Pive acres of ground, adjacent to the new section of the cemetery, were purchased recently from Mrs, William Thaw and tho land will be cleared and parked until so'me future time When it Will bo needed.
