/ Herald The Sewickley Valley's Home-News Weekly Vol. XXVII. No. 18. The twenty-fifth anniversary of tho ordination of Eev. "William P. Curtin, pastor of St. James Church, Sewickley, which ocieurs next Tuesday, March 18th, •is to be observed by coremonics in which the people of Sowickley Valley generally will take part, in recognition of Father Curtin's notable service to the whole community during his pastorate hero. His own congregation will of course do all thoy can to honor him at this timo, and the occasion will be participated in by the iclergy of tho whole Pittsburgh diocese. The day will bo observed first by solemn High Mass at .St. James Church beginning at 10:30 that morning, at which Father Curtin will bo tho Celebrant, There will ho a sermon by Bov- orend Basil Boyle, C. S. P>, who is a cousin of Fathor Ourtin; ho is Master of Novices for tho Paullst Community of tho United States, whoso headquarters arc at Oak Bidgo, N. J. At noon a luncheon for the visiting clergy will be served in tho Guildhall by the women of the Parish. At four.o'clock in tho afternoon the children of St. Jaimos paroehial school aro to present a program in Father Curtin's honor at the Guildhall, under tho direction of the Sisters of St. Joseph. They have not made public the features of this program, although it is understood it may include a short play—tho childron well know Father Curtin's interest in them and in tho dramatic entertainments they give from time t"o time. At eight in tho evening at tho Guildhall there will ho a publie reception tondorod by tho people of tho whole comimuitity without regard to denomination, which has beon arrangod by a committee appointed for tho purpose Burgess 0. S. Bichardson will open tho mooting, introducing Hon. Walter Lyon as pormanent chairman. Dr. Alloyno C. Howell of St. Stephen's Church will offer the invocation; addresses will bo mado by Edward Ducey for the .members of .St. James Church and by Dr. Owon D. Odoll of the Presbyterian Church for tho people of Sewickley Valley; Rev. Henry A. Welday of tho Methodist Church will offer tho closing prayer. There will bo music by St. James choir, and >by Nirella's orchestra. The committee of arrangements includes 0. S, Bichardson, Wilson A. Campbell, Henry T. Irwin, Hon. Walter Lyon, W. Hcfbor Dithrich, Eev. A, C, Howell, Eev. 0. D. Odell, Eov. H. A. Welday, John IE. McKirdy and W. G. Davis, tho Inst named acting as treasurer for tho committeo. Father Curtin was born in Toronto, Ontario, January 10, 1880. His early education was received under the Christian Brothers in Do Salic Institute. Ho made his course in classics and Philosophy at St. Michael's Collogo and Toronto University. His studios in Theology were made in the Grand Seminary at Laval University in Montreal. On March 18, 1905, Father Curtin was ordained for the Pittsburgh diocese in St. Vincent's Seminary. After serving as assistant pastor of Holy Cross Church, South Side, Pittsburgh, the late Archbishop Oanevin sent him to tako a post-graduate course in the Apostolic Mission House at tho Catholic University of America, Washington, D. C. For nine yoars ho was a member of the Pittsburgh A.postolate, preaching missions, and delivering lectures throughout Western Pennsylvania. In May, 1914 ho was. appointed pastor of St. James Church, Sowickley, The parish has grown and prospered under his guidance and his civic spirit has ondoarod him to his follow citizens. Tho building of tho Guildhall was ono of Father Curtin's outstanding accomplishments. This building, planned by him and designed by Carleton Strong, tho Pittsburgh architect, is modeled in tho stylo of the ancient guildhalls of \ CN t.
