Sponsored by tho Sowickley Advisory Council, tho exciting event netted approximately $1,250 for tho council's unomploymont reliof fund, An unfortunate accident marred the gamo iu the socond chukker, whon Bailoy McCreery, riding No. 3 on tlio Shadyside team, was thrown as his horso stumbled and fell ovor tho sido hoards at tho southeastern end of tho field as ho was riding full tilt aftor tho ball. Aftor a fow moments rest, ho ro- mountod, as tho audionco applauded and finishod tho chukker, apparently not severely injurod. Half way through tho next chukker, however, just after making a difficult save, tlio seventeen-year-old (player fainted iff his saddle and Sowickloy firemen, acting as ttshors, rushed on tlio field, caught tlio player and carried him to Bitchey's ambulance. Ho was rushed to tlio Valloy Hospital across tho road, whoro ho was givon emergency treat ment for a broken left collar bono and thou taken to Pittsburgh. King McCreery, Franklin and Marshall Col* lege Star, older brother of tlio injured player, took his place on the, Shadyside team. However, ho had only recently been discharged from a hospital following an operation for a spinal injury suffered in a steeplechase, and only played ono chukkor. Then David I. McCahill, Sr., who had been reforeeing tho match, finished tho gamo as No. 3 man on tho Shadysido team, whilo Georgo Chubb took his place as referee. Tho spectators, many of whom woro from Pittsburgh and surrounding towns, filled ovory inch of spaco available behind tho wire oroctod at tho southern end of tho field, occupied tho chairs donated by E. D. Ritchoy along the eastern sido of tho field, filled the cars parked iu tho parking spaces bo- hind tho field sido scats, covered the slope near tho annox, occupied about two thirds of tho grandstand seats and a number of boxes, as woll as standing and sitting on tho roof and porch of tho "Y" building, on tho wall along tho golf course, on tho old hospital steps, on tho hills overlooking the field and along tho fonco on Division Streot. Whilo tho people in tho latter locations did not pay admission, thoso who went to tho now hospital building to watch tho gamo from windows or from tho third floor terrace woro charged general admission by Miss Maud Newman, superintendent. Tho 107th Pield Artillery baud, in khaki uniforms, arrived at tho field and marched back and forth several times in front of tho flag-decked boxes sevoral timos whilo tho crowd was arriving and being directed to thoir places by a number of Sewickley and Edgeworth firemen, state police, highway patrolmen, polico from all throo boroughs and Sewiekley Heights, and several members of tho Legion Drum and Buglo Corps. A tent, erected bo- sido the grandstand, was tho headquarters for the Sowickley youths and Girl Reserves who circulated throughout tho grounds selling refreshments. Tho big trucks used for hauling tho ■ horses woro parked bosido the upper tennis courts and grooms constantly exorcised tho good-looking ponies at that end of tho field. A seore board was oroctod on tho tennis court foncc, but it was hardly needed as tho announcer on the public address system kept the crowd informed of tho score. Tho assemblage was addressed over tho loud speakers, whieh woro installed and operated by tho Bell Telephone Company, by J. C. Chaplin, who explained that tho Sewickloy Advisory Council was working towards the end of raising monoy for relieving unemployment, in tho Valloy. Ho highly praised tho members of tho committees who had worked so hard to make tho necessary preparations and road the names of tho members of the various committees. Ho announced that tho playors had donated thoir services and that the band camo down free of charge, and then introduced P. J. Chosternian, vice president of tho Bell Telephone Company.
