TWENTY-SECOND ANNUAL BALL Edgeworth Fire Department Will Hold Dance Tho twenty-second annual ball for tho benefit of the Edgeworth Volunteer Fire Department, will be hold on Friday evening, February 6th, in the Edgeworth School Auditorium. Seotty Walker's Orchestra will furnish the music and refreshments will be served. Two tickets have been mailed to each home in the borough and the entertainment committee, consisting of C. T. McCullough, chairman, William Scott, Andrew Thein, C. G. Plies and John Boyd, enclose a letter saying that assistance will be greatly appreciated, as tho dance is tho only source of revenue to tho firo department for raising funds to defray oxponsos for the ensuing year. Also oiiclosod in the loiter is a card bearing tho Words, "In case of Firo—Call 'Sewickley 041," with instructions to hang it near the telephone, Tho Edgeworth Firo Department was organized in tho latter part of the year 1004, when a meeting was called by citizens of tho borough, to form a Are department for the protection of the borough, The mooting was hold in the blacksmith shop of Henry Hartling, Ohostnut Stroot, rind Edgeworth Hose Company No. 1 was organized, Tho officers elected at this meeting were: Nathan Buckley, president; Robert Nesbitt, vice president; C. J. Hatton, Sr., treasurer; Charles Harrison, secretary, and W. C. Hamilton, chief. Arrangements wero made to ring the school boll for an alarm. The first equipment was a hand drawn hose reel which was acquired from Loot Township at the time of the incorporation of tho borough. Previous to the organization mooting, this reel was stored in Ezra Young's barn, but after Hose Company No. 1 was organized, they moved EDGEWORTH'S NEWEST FIRE TRUCK This truck was built by itlio Edgeworth flremon on a Pierce Arrow chassis they purchased last fall. It is equipped with two large chemical tanks, 1,000 feot of chemical hose, extra chemicals, 1,000 feot of 1% inch fire hose and all the required nozzles; and other accessories. It was bought arid paid for out of the fund raised by the annual dances. the reel to Hartling's Blacksmith Shop. The first donation was made by Alex Laughlin on February 20, 1905, which enabled the Company to get its first supplies of stationery. In March, 1903, the membership consisted of the following members, W. C. Hamilton, George Hcrz, Henry Hartling, 1), ,17 Pierce, William Rogers, Frank McDonald, Norman Bedilion, George Sovin, 1). C. Anderson, John McPherson, C. J. Hatton, Nathan Buckley, Richard Robinson, John Patton, C. J. Collins, Robert Nesbitt, Sol Tolliver, Jefferson Grannyson, Bernard Simon, C, T. McCullough, D. L. Lynch, James Gibson, Harvey Sala, Nathan Buckley, Jr., George Knorr, Charles Reno, Jr., and John Evans. In 1911, the fire company realizing the need of better equipment, named a committee on the purchasing of a fire truck, and on April 7, 1913, a contract was let to tho Lango Auto Company for a motor-driven apparatus, This was paid for through the efforts of the members and a donation of $1,000 from tho borough council. This truck was the second motor-driven apparatus in Allegheny County; the othor truck was owned by the City of Pittsburgh. In May, 1913, the Are department was (continued on page 4)
