Although this is tho flrst timo in its history that tho Eire Department has hold a dance, mombors of tho various committees aro lending every effort to mako tho affair a huge success. Tho hall will bo appropriately decorated for tho occasion, Will La Mont of Maplo Lane, Shields, a local boy who has mado good as an orchestra loader, will swing the baton whilo his seven piece Hotel Boosevelt Orchestra produces tuneful, provocative danco music. In his fourth year as director of tho band, Mr, La Mont plans to arrange a medley of tunos appropriate to St. Patrick's Day to play at thc dance. Gordon Pouting of Thorn Stroot has boon pianist of the band for tho past throo years. Tlio orchestra is appearing at the Club Lido, Youngstown, Ohio, making a special trip back to Sowickloy to play at tho firemen's danco. After sponding two yoars and llvo weeks at tho Hotel Boosevelt in Pittsburgh, tho band took to tho road, playing in Wash ington, Pa., for a time and thou appeared at thc Old Orchard Inn, Booliostor, Pa., for another engagement, with a few ono night stands on thoir schodulo. Will Lament has built up quite a following for himself and his orchestra during tho four yoars thoy havo boon together. Even though mombors of tho Sowickloy Firo Department, aro paid for attending practices and fires, thoro is no provision mado by the borough, which purchases all the necessary equipment, for tho incidental expenses which must bo mot by tlio organization. It requires money to send delegates to conventions of tho County, Western Pennsylvania and State Volunteer Firemen's Associations ami to aid in the welfare of tho mombors of tho company. In order to provide such funds, the Firo Department holds annual benefits, and if sufficient money is raised, no moro appeals aro mado during the year. Another tribute eoines to the local firo depart mon t, for, thc head of the Stato Volunteer Firemen's Association, hearing of the fame of tho Sowickloy department, which has spread beyond the limits, not only of Allegheny County, but of Western Pennsylvania, is planning to visit Sowickloy and watch the local firemen go through thoir -well drilled firo fighting practice.
