Miade "C^m beautiful tfyis Summer ::fr-x$>j- The Broad Street Triangle, where our Valley's War Memorial should stand Landscaping made attractive the area hetween River Avenue and Walnut Street SI MODEL WAR MEMORIAL Miniature Monument at Lihrary Residents of tho Valley who favored neither tho very elaborate design proposed at first, nor tho idea of a fountain which was later proposed, are invited to inspect a model memorial proposed by Campbell-Horigan, 4718 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, which is on display this week and next at tho Sewickley Public Library. So that it may appear equally attractive from any sido of tho triangle at the foot of Broad Stroot, tho proposed memorial is round. Tho baso consists of threo circular slabs of granite, each smallor than tho' one bolow, forming stops on all sides. Six smooth columns support a plain circular roof, but on tho curved inside of tho top, in colored glass mosaic, appears a largo star, with a flag sot in its center. A light, placed on a hexagonal pedestal in tho center of tho memorial, roflocts on both the flag and the pedestal, making tho memorial effective both day and night. Placqucs aro to bo placed on the sides of the pedestal, hearing the names of those who made tho supreme sacrifice. About the base, proposed wording is, "In memory and recognition of the sons and daughters of Sowickloy Valley who faithfully served their country in tho Spanish - American and World Wars." About the top aro the words, "Sowickley Valley War Memorial, Erected A. D. 1036," with insignia of tho Eod Cross and other organizations ' placed between the words. A circular walk, of flagstone design, with grass growing between the slabs, surrounds the memorial, which is design' ed to bo built within tho limits of tho funds now hold by tho committee. Of granite, it should bo more lasting and easier to koop looking attractive than an edifice of sandstone or other soft stono. The purpose of the display at tho Library is to givo everyone in tho Valloy who is interested a chance to examine and express their approval or disapproval of tho memorial to the committee.
