Irwin EDGEWORTH .FESTIVAL Next Thursday—Benefit for the United Belief Fund The Community Harvest Fair in Edgeworth is progressing rapidly, and more plans are materializing each day. •The Smorgasbord is proving a onost popular attraction, but it is, after all, one of many features which will be a source of pleasure to tho ticket-holders during the day. One of the best should be John Houston in a program of Scotch songs and dances; another is to bo a pair of fortune-tellers; a third will bo Joseph Calderoni Avith his accordion. iThese, with all the other items that 'have been mentioned in these articles, go toward making a day of g'ood times for all the family. There aro a few additions to committees to record i for Mrs. Stanley Lyon on, Flower Arrangements, Mrs. Walter Sutton; J. W. Reamer for Stanley Lyon on Vegetables; Mrs. John Weber for Mrs. F, W. Wohrum, who has replaced Mrs. James D'tinn Oh the Market Stand; Messrs. Walter Dixon, ■Albert Powell, Andrew McPherson and W, K. McPherson on the Construction Committee; Mrs. Jossiip Taylor and Mrs. Catherine Gill on tho Smorgasbord Committee for Miss Doris Jean Hite; and Mrs. Lyon, Nancy Brown, Gilbert Bafferty, and Pamela Wagner aro assist* ing Mrs. Archibald Wagner with the Publicity. Mrs. H. J, Litsey has assumed the duties of Mrs. Luther Laeher as chairman of the Bake Sale committee, the latter having been called out of town, and helping her are Mmes. Eobert Mawhinney, Claude Hoover, AI* frod Fairfield, Stewart Kilmer, Goorge Gorman, George Miller and Mrs. Laeher. Mrs. A, K. Clark is in charge of the Girl iScouts, who are selling tickets, for tho Pair. Mrs. Harry Knoch, Mrs. Hugh McPherson and Mrs. Charles Doyle are assisting Mrs. Mark Shriver with the Canning Committee, and Mrs. Edward O'Neill is to be .aide for Mrs. C. Gordon Zug, Jr., who is Clerk of the Show. The tickets for tho Edgeworth Fair are being sold from door to door by Girl and Boy Scouts, or by committee members, and at tho door tho day of the Show, but have not 'been sent out through the mails. Anyone wishing to buy some may call tho Edgeworth Borough Building, or any committee chairman. Residents of Edgeworth, or thoso having gardens Avithin the borough limits are urged to send in exhibits in whatever classes -they may choose. Entry blanks may bo secured at the Borough Building, or from Mrs. Zug. For the benefit of those wishing to enter the canning contest, we print tho following excerpt from a letter from Miss Isabel Bewick, Homo Economics Representative of the Allegheny County Agricultural Extension Association, explaining the points used in judging: If canning boots, for example, they should be as nearly uniform in size -as possible, as nearly the natural color as can be, and neatly arranged in the jar to conserve space but not increase color. _o Quality Liquid clear—no sign of decomposition. Product should have retained its Shape and not have any bloiu- ishos such as blight on string beans. 50 Paekttgc Uniform cans and covers of the same type should be used, also labels uniform and well placed. 10 SEWICKLEY VALLEY FAIR At the Y.M.C.A. on Labor Day Afternoon and Evening Residents of the Valley aro assured of a good time on Labor Day even if the pleasure driving ban is still in effect, for the Sowickloy Valley Harvest Festival at the. Sewickley YMCA from 2 p. M. to 10 p. nt. Monday. September eth, will have something to interest everyone. The festival, sponsored by the Sowickley YMCA and the Sowickloy Kiwanis Olub as a moans of filling in an otherwise dull holiday and at -the same time raising money to ro- duce the Y's debt is also to givo the victory gardeners a chance to display the products of their hard Work. The event is also tho opening gun of the local Y's semi-centennial and centennial of tho Avorld-wide <Y> next June. There will bo 26 classes of vegetables, 4 of fruit, 17 of flowers, 16* of canned .fruits and vegetables, S of canned goods, besides a special 4-H Club tomato- exhibit, group arrangements of vegetables and flowers, necdlowork and vegetables of unusual shapes and sizes.
