SEWICKLEY, PA., FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1943 Price Five Cents THE SEWICKLEY MERCHANTS FOOTBALL TEAM This group of local boys has played consistent football throughout its season of games with the other teams of Honus AVagner's 'Universal League.' They are to play the last game of the season Sunday afternoon on tho Y.M.C.A. field, against the Oakland Rangers, now the leading team of the league. In .the picture, top row: Harry Lupinacci, business manager and coach; Jerry Vescio, president and head coach; Harry Day, physical instructor at the 'Y/and Fred Buprecht. Second row: Willie Padovese, Sam Gariti, Bud Donald, Bocco Tucei, Butch Alimena, Bob Wharton and David Scott. In lower row, Louis Busso, Jack Payton, Mike Pascuzzi, Bert Haley, Albert Sacco, Frank Vescio, Sam Brunoj and John Barbour. Max Ivriever is not in the pieture. The photograph was taken by Officer Tom Toia. B LOOD-BANK volunteers from this community were so numerous when the mobile unit of the Eed Cross came to Sewickley last year and again last month that it seemed necessary to have it baek again to give opportunity to those who also want a share in 'this pre* eminently patriotic, merciful and in* valuable moans of saving our fighters' lives and shortening tho war, So the unit is here today (Friday) and tomorrow, and appointments may bo jiittdc by calling tho Bed Cross House so that no one's time will .bo wasted. At this Writing we're told that not -enough blood-givers have yet made appointments to justify its coining—those who gave last month are not eligible ,fco repeat so soon—and there is still time available for late-comers. Scwickley has always richly -done its share in answering a call for national need; it will no doubt .do it this time. But the time to do it is now—today and tomorrow. It is suggested that those who aro not able to give their own. blood, for any reason, may still help the causo by making it possible for some one else to do so. The idea of closing business places Friday or -Saturday afternoon following a holiday scorns impracticable, yet most employers would no doubt try to excuse from duty any person who could bo spared, and who wished to make a blood donation; after all, it doesn't take long, Others who cannot give might offer tho clianco to those who can, by caring for house or children, during the time necessary for tho gift. And 'those who have given already can do much by assuring their friends that the process is easy, painless and without unpleasant after-effects; they all seem to agree on those points. And When it will save a life . . . ! The mobile unit with its complement of skilled nurses and workers will be at the. Sewickley grade school. Broad Street, whose basement has been fitted with all facilities for ease and proper practice, this afternoon (Friday) from 2:30 to 5:00, find tomorrow (Saturday) from 10:30 a. in. to 2:30 p. m. Appointments may bo made at the. Eed Cross House (Sowickley 225), even up to and probably including those hours, since the schedule so far has not been completely Jlllccl. Anyone .between tho ages of 21 and CO may contribute blood; and those between 1S and 21 may do so by consent of parent or guardian. >Cnll up, or call iir, the Eed Cross House, and say you'll give. It's to save a life! GARDEN FOR ICT0RY Tho Sewickley Victory Garden Committee reminds all Victory gardeners to please clean up their garden plots by December first. Warnings that owners might refuse to let their property be used for Vic* tofy Gardens next year came this week from tho Office of Civilian Defense, where complaints have been Ulccl that .many .gardens were not cleaned up after harvesting.
