Here Santa Clans gave candy to the expectant children, and.here Paul Critchlow for the 21st Christmas Eve led .the singers on his "imaginary journey" to Bethlehem" as pictured in the well-known carols. Christmas decorations this year were modest and inexpensive, hut the figures of Dickens' Christmas Carol characters made appropriate background for the Tree. The photograph was taken hy Thomas Toia. WITH THE COLORS Now a Lieutenant Neal Clay, Jr., of Edgeworth, was commissioned a second lieutenant on December 10th, upon completion of the Officer Candidate course wt the Infantry sehool at Port Benning, Ga. Lieut. Clay is the son of Mr. ■and Mrs. Neal B. 'Clay of Nicholas Place, nnd spent a 'Christmas holiday with them, leaving Monday for a now post. He was inducted on June 7, 1041, and served with tho B.I.R.T.C., Fort McOlellan, Ala., until throe months -ago; he held the rank of sergeant there. Tho men who attend tlie Officer Candidate Schools aro tho best privates, corporals and sergeants from the entire army, selected by their superiors for outstanding intelligence and qualities of leadership. During -the course even the mildly incapable aro wooded, out, so that tho men who graduate with commissions aro America's finest soldiers, fully qualified to bo the lenders in our now army. Transferred to Baltimore Norman Do Gori of Sowickloy lias received, on Docembor 21, promotion to the rank of private first class. He was inducted early this month, and has been stationed at Miami Beach, Florida. He has now boon transferred to the Hola- bird Motor Base, at Baltimore. Prom Australia A Christinas card (duly 'censored') has come to Tho Herald from Joseph Magisano: 'To wish you all in Sewickley (a Town I'll never forget) Happiness at Christmas and every day of the coming Now Year. From a Local Boy from Sewickley, Joseph Magisano, in Australia.' Jnmes Hanover, 234 Graham Street, was graduated last week from the Field Artillery Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill, Okla., and has been commissioned a second lieutenant of Field Artillery. He has beon assigned to duty at Fort Bragg, N. C. Ho entered the Army in September. William H. Bemme, of Sewickley Township, who was inducted into tho Army in October, is now a gunner sergeant, having recently graduated from an aerial gunners' school at n. Texas air field. Leonard Budd Prus of Leetsdalo was graduated with honor from the Carnegie Institute of Technology at the 'expedited' commencement exercises held in Carnegie Music Hall December 21st. Ho will bo commissioned as a second lieutenant in tho Officers' Reserve Corps, Corps of Engineers upon completion of special military training. At Tech he has been a scholarship holder; he received the Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering. He's In The Army Now Dear Editor: It might be of interest for you to know that I am in the Field Artillery at Fort Bragg, N. C. My transfer from tho Navy having been effected in November, I enlisted at Clarksburg, W. Va. At present I am in my fourth week of training in a 13-week cycle. We are taught International Morse Code in radio, to be used in directing the fire of field artillery, we are also drilled in marching, rifle marksmanship and even Commando work for close combat. It is very interesting, although quite vigorous training. I am in excellent health at present. The atmosphere is quite clear iu North Carolina, although we did have a two- inch fall of snow last week. Wright, Jr., of Sewickloy, recently appointed Aerial Gunnery Instructor at the Gunnery School, Hickam Field, Hawaii, was promoted on November 27th to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Born in Beaver Falls, July 10," 1918, he graduated at Sewickley High School in 1037. In November, 1041, he volunteered in the Army Air Corps. A few months later he was graduated from the Radio Operator and Mechanic School at Scott Field, Belleville, 111.; was transferred to Tyndall Field, Panama City, Florida, «nd there learned Aerial Gunnery, Corporalcy was awarded him when he joined a combat crew as aerial gunner. Several months later he camo to Hickam as a ball turret operator aboard a Flying Bomber; his work was noted by his superiors, «iid so he was appointed an aerial Gunnery Instructor at the -school. Home on Furlough Promoted to Sergeant Pfc. Leonard Moore, sou of Mr. and Jto. Leslie Moore, 308 Challis Lane, Edgeworth, has been promoted to Corporal Technician and was home for the holidays, leaving Tuesday for his post at Camp Davis, S. O. His brother, Corporal Lester Moore, is still at Camp Davis, and was unable to obtain leave at tho same time. Staff Sergeant Wesley D. Graham, Jr., arived at home on December 17th, and began his return trip to his post at 'Sheppard Field, Texas, on Tuesday, after spending the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D, Graham of Haysville. Sporting a throe year service stripe, Sergeant Graham has an administrative post with tho IT. S. Army Air Forces. V
