SEWICKLEY, PA., THURSDAY, JANUARY 18, 1940 Price 5 Cents Ofye Colon's ^-Annual Venison JDinner Each year for the past four years, a Venison Dinner has been hold at the American Legion homo on Broad Street for members of Sewirkley Valley Post jSTo. _, and of the Legion Club, with a few invited guests. This year's dinner was held last Thursday evening, January 11th, when this picture was taken; about 100 guests were served by a ladies' committeo consisting of tho wives of members of Post and Club. Post Commander Martin Grogau acted as toastmasfcr, introducing Bur gess Charles A. Woods for a few words of welcome and congratulation on behalf of the borough of Sewickley; and Bev. Claire 0. Dufford of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, who was one of the speakers on this occasion, with informal remarks from a number of others. The venison which formed the principal course of the repast was brought in from tho wood? by Louis Stoup, Jr. and Andrew Lundell, and prepared by Steward William Kemmer. C. A, Haley, William Kvans and AVilliam McC. White were the committee of arrangements for the dinner. For the first two years, William Pagan was responsible for providing the venison and arranging for the dinner; since then Charles Allen, Louis Stenp, Sr. and Jr., and Andrew Lundell ha\ e carried on the custom. This picture, was taken by D. A. Feigley. Some of those appearing prominently in the picture are; John Guthrie, at left in white shirt; thence along the head table, left to right, are Thomas Jones; Commander Martin Grogan; Burgess Charles A. Woods; Bev. C. O. Dufford; Bobert Kleindienst; and Merrill Lourimore. Along tho near side of the table at right of tho picture are: Boss Rogers, John White, William M. White, someone half concealed and not identified, then David Katteldorfer, and, farther back, Clarence Haley. Joseph Parton, Andrew Lundell, AVilliam Kvans and Louis Steup, Jr., are on the other side of that table, among others. PRESIDENT'S BIRTHDAY BALL Half of Proceeds Go to Local Hospitals Climaxing the annual nation-wide drive for funds to combat infantile paralysis, Pittsburgh's observance will bo hold January 30, as will those all over the Fnitod States, Mayor Cornelius D. Scully is Pittsburgh chairman, Blair A, Wilson treasurer. Miss Letititt Scan lon lias orgatii/.ed committees for the "March of Dimes" phase of the campaign, Tlie Pittsburgh celebration will be held in tho main ballroom of the Hold AVilliam Penn nnd in tlie Chatterbox of tho same hotel. Tt will Include dancing, a floor show and a buffet supper; well known "namo" bands will furnish thc music. Reservations for either room can bo mado at the hotel; general head quarters for the celebration are at ol t City-County building, Atlantic 3d IS. As in former years, 50% of the not proceeds from Pittsburgh's celebration will be placed in trust iu tlio Colonial Trust Company for the exclusive use of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, subject to requisitions from the various orthopedic clinics of local hospitals. The remainder is sent to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, inc. It is turn remits to the local fund the proportionate share due Pittsburgh and Allegheny County from funds collected nationally in special events, such as the Sports AVritci's Association, Motion Picture Theater Owners and other privato institutions. None of 'the money collected locally is sent to Warm Springs, Ga.; any money received there must bo a grant from the National Fomulaition for some specific purpose. ____________________■______■
