Moran, 49, of Aleppo, died Saturday morning in her Sewickley Heights Manor neighborhood while walking two Bernese mountain dogs — Illini and Monty, which she and her husband, Jeffrey, adopted about six weeks ago. A vehicle slid on ice and struck Moran, pinning her and one of the dogs. Moran died at the scene. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Moran's death an accident. Span said he's been metal-detecting off and on since he was 12. He said he wouldn't be out in the cold for long if hunting for treasures wasn't so addictive.
