Quaker Valley not opting for pay-for-play By bobby cherry STAFF WRITER When school starts in some districts across the region next month, students and their parents will be forced to pay extra for sports and other activities. But in the Quaker Vailey School District, administrators say requiring families to pay for student activities could be more of a burden than it is a budgetary relief. The so-called “pay-to-play” plan for extracurricular activities and athletics is a growing trend among regional school board members and district administrators in the region. Last month, Bethel Park and Franklin Regional were among area districts where students and families will be required to pay to participate in activities such as football, cheerleading or band.
