Child Health Bali-Out Of This World “New Faces from Outer Spaces” will feature the annual Child Health Ball on Novem-: her 25th at the Edgeworth Club. A large missle will greet guests in front of the Club and the atmosphere; of outer space wilL be (Hendel Studio) carried out in the decorations. Walter Braham, Jr. A large missile in front of The Edgeworth Club will greet the guests of die Child Health Ball on Saturday, November 25th!! The atmosphere of outer space will continue throughout the club. A replica of the space capsule compTete^vith a dummy and the tape recording of Shepherd's flight, into space will be in the livingroom. Suspended in the patio will be an exact replica of the Echo Sattelite. These are on loan from Alcoa and the United States Air Force who were more than delighted to aid in meeting the challenge of Mrs. Charles B. Roberts* ingenious decoration plans. Imaginative costumes and fabulous headdresses will make “New Faces from Outer Space" come alive on the ballroom stage at ten o'clock. Mrs. Alan H. Amsler, a' graduate of The Parsons School of Design and a Child Health Member, designed all of the costumes and was aided in their creation by Mrs. Philip T. Foxsling. The dazzling crowns of the Venus Queens are uniquely fashioned from mirrors and tiny red, blue, green and ‘ gold Christmas ornaments.. The exotic heads would win Salvador Dali’s enthusiastic approval, especially “Beautiful, Beautiful Qpe Eye". This yellow head’ with antennae, which are constructed from curtain pleaters and topped with tiny silver Christmas balls, contains- one big bright blue eye. The Saturn girls will dance rings around each other in flourescent shocking pink and_ black show girl costumes complete with fringe. Many surrealistic and clever hair styles will punctuate this black tie ball with glamour. Mr. John linko of Edgeworth will create outer space coiffures especially for the show. • The sets and the props, scene-snatchers in themselves, must remain a secret until the night of theJjall. Mr. Alan H. Amsler, a. commercial artist, is. not only lending his professional talent by designing and creating all of the sets, but is lending his amateur talent by starring in the show with Mr. Philip T. Forsling and Mrs. Charles W, Dithrich. /‘New Faces from Outer Spaces" is an4 original revue with familiar music. It was witten and directed by Mrs. John T. Stoner, the Show Chairman. Some of the performers who will be familiar to the guests are: Dr. Lloyd hi Lancaster, Mr. Peter R. Bickelhaupt, Mr. David Crockett, Mrs. "George M. L. Gould, Mr. Frank R. The St. James’ Parent Teacher“’ Guild will be given a vivid-description, of tbe vital role communications play in- our nation's defense, when they view the Bell Telephone Company's film “Seconds For Survival" -9n Thursday, November 16th, in the 4-auditorium of St. James School, Bank Street The PTG program Will begin earlier and the public is cordially invited to attend the film showing, which begins at 8:30 o'clock. N. F. Bach, Bell Telephone Company manager, will introduce ¿be film that shows the detailed operations of such defense elements as the DEW LINE, PINTREE LINE, WHITE ALICE, NORAD, SAC, SAGE, and many others. “Seconds for Survival” was produced by the Bell Telephone Company with the assistance of the Defense Department and the armed forces of the United States and Canada. At the conclusion of the film, Mr. Bach will place a telephone call to NORAD (North American Air defense Command) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The students of the Quaker Valley Junior igh School, presented a play, “Shock of His “ _ 10th. Left to High Life” on Friday, > November & '«• « «• Junior High Presents First Play Of Year “Heart about gone. Ehfinol This is . terrible!" Thus went tho play, Shock of His Lifet presented On Friday, November 1(£ 1961, by Mr. Maze arid Miss Ruzzini. The cast starred Tim Curran as Wilbur Maxwell, Tom Stevenson as Mr, Maxwell, Suo Gardner as Mrs, Maxwell, John Sadd as Hercules, Suo fleeman as Betty Lou Maxwell, and Liz Fleming as Connie Maxwell. ’ ♦ Wilbur and his easy going pal Hercules are two simple minded boys who do things ns simply ns possible. .When they received several telephone messages and jumbled them Up look out! Tho father returned (Simantirhs Studios) -right: Sue Seeman, Liz Fleming, Tim Curran, Tom Stevenson, Sue Gardner and John Sadd. from a physical checkup and intercepted the befuddled message as one from tlio doctor saying ho had only minutes to live. Thus developed one of the most hilarious plots over played before the Quaker Valley Junior High School students. The play was well received by everyone and kept tho audience laughing for a riotous forty-five minutes, Mr. Mazo indicated that thanks were duo to the stage crow for the scenery and to the art club for makeup. Besong, Jr,, and Commissioner-elect, Raymond Besöng, was presented to Allegheny County Court otf November* 14th, asking for a re-count t»f ballots for three offices in Leet Township. Tho offices concerned arc: Justice of the Peace, Judge of Election and (Continued on Page 24) At the quarterly meeting of the Commissioners of the Sewicldey, Water Works, a letter was read from ' a^JIeights resident who had had two bad water leaks on his property this summer. The resultant water bill was considerable and there was nothing the Water Commission could do, since the water had passed through the meter. President Donald Booth suggested to the owner that the water meter be checked daily, to find leaks before they waste too much water. Another customer 'complained .of* a large bill, due to a leak, so the com- -missioners authorized an advertisement in the Herald once a month for three months. The advertisement appeared first r on page *22 of the November 2nd Herald and gives some startling statistics. A quarter-inch leak Will waste 146,000 gallons’ of water, worth $54.88 in a quarter; an eighth-inch leak will waste 36,500 gallons of water worth $17.50; a one-sixteenth-inch leak will waste 9,125 gallons, worth. $5.18, and a leak only one- . thirty-second of an inch will waste 2,281 gallons, worth $1.93. In Sewickley the sewage 'charge is added, so it's a good idea to check all _ plumbing to make sure there are no,., leaks. George D. Lawrence, 816 Peebles Street, Sewickley, who was appointed by Sewickley council on September 18th to fill the Vacancy caused by the resignation of Byron E. Rhoads, presented jhis oath of office and loyalty oath and took his place on the board of commissiotfersT Since Mr. Rhoads' term expires on December 31, 1961, Mr. Lawrence will have to be .re-appointed for a full term.
