The viaduct — the only means of entering and exiting the river section of Gienfieid Borough — has been of primary concern to borough officials for years. A replacement for this vital link to the outside world has been promised for years, but the process has been slew. Finally, though, the wait is over. Bill Marszalek, project engineer, said from start to finish tKe work is expected to take 505 calendar days, and expects to have everything completed by the end of 1988. Cost of the new span is $3,435,000 — funded with federal and state monies as well as 5-percent of the total coming from the Public Utility Commission. Brayman Construction of Gibsonia is the contractor. Marszalek said that staff of workers -will vary during the course of the pro-ject. At present, about 15 men - are employed at the site. Preliminary work will include excavation and pile driving. “Nothing out of the ordinary has happened sd far,” Marszalek said. “We’ve hit a few snags, a few boulders here and there, but nothing unusual.” Nothing unusual for motorists is expected, even those coming in and out of Gienfieid. However, Marszalek says there might be a small inconvenience' sometime next summer when a ramp at the north end of the viaduct at Ohio River. Boulevard will be closed for a time.
