Jan. 15 Council To Consider Both Sides of Beover Street ..... ¥ * Proposed Ordinance And Notice To Be Available 15 Days Prior To January 15 Sewickley council, after consideration of re-zoning requests for. both sides of Beaver Street, between Blackburn and Grimes and Walnut and Little and hack to • the alleys^ set Monday nighty January 15th, at 8 p.m. as the time for a public meeting in the council chambers* The meéting will have two purposes^, to con-; sider a petition for re-zoning to commercial filed by die property owners on the northern side of Beaver Street and also to consider re-zoning in that portion of Sewickley, There is à proposal before council asking for commercial zoning of the lower side of the street, so a Colonial type A. & P. may be constructed there. The ordinance, to ,be considered, which. will be. on--public display in the borough managers office 15 days before January 12th, will include both sides of the street. Public notice will also be given 15 days before the meeting date , .The proposed .new ordinance will -- also set arbitrary lot sizes in the new area and also prohibit certain uses that are permitted in the present commercial zone. President Fred Atwood opened the discussion on the re-zoning proposal by stating that council has taken no action on re-zoning part of Beaver Street and will take no action without; everyone being given an opportunity ^ to ^ express their opinions. ^ He. stated that the proposal to rezone the southern side of Beaver Sheet was. due to. a plan to build a new Colonial-type A, & P. store with double the present parking lot. Since that requires 114* acres, it is hard to find within the limits of the present commercial area. He assumed that everyone is in favor of * a new A. & P. store, the only question being whether it should be located in the commercial - zone or in the new-residential zone adjacent to the commercial zone. . Mr. Atwood added that council has been discussing the advisability of -a ‘new type of commercial zone more limited in permitted uses than the present one. So far, he said, there has been no meeting of minds on thte subject and council is glad to listen to any oinpions. Walter Threadgill, who lives at Thom and Little, said he thought there would be a public meeting, but the proposed ordinance must be prepared first. Marie Parkman, 830 Thom Street, asked if the new store Is about the same size as the present one, if there would be sufficient parking space and space for exits and entrances to lessen congestion nn Beaver Street. She-was-informed that plans are not now available, but. will be 15 days before the public hearing. Later, she asked about the master plans and was told that there are 200 copies of the Hip report in the Borough Managers office, plus about 25-“copies of the a *47 master plan. However, the latest study of traffic by. the7 Allegheny County Planning Association, ^is in short supply with not enough copies of the 30-page report for councilmen (Continued On Page 24) Osborne Council Re-Enacts Wage Tax and Raises Fees Fall-Out Shelters Freed of Building Permit Fees Which Were Baised For 1962 Osborne council, at its regular meeting on Thursday, December 14tli, passed an ordinance re-enacting the wage tax at 1%; passed another,, ordinance which raised the fees for. building permits and^made fall-out shelters exempt from building permit fees; appointed George Rittelman as Civil Defense Director with Robert Kenetto and Michael W.
