C. Miller, left to his son, Howard, who sold to A. *E. Miller in 1931. Jules LeyKoy purchased the (Village JPhotos) business from A. E, Miller in 1953 and retained the name, as his father-in-law has a Miller shoe store in few Kensington. Mr. LevKoy terminated the . lease at 509 Beaver and invested in a newly-decorated, more spacious and luxurious store in order to better •serve his customers in this area. Burtons New Mens Wear Store Edward Ellerton After 31 Years' Local Contractors Win Contracts for New Furnaces and New Flooring Sewiddey council, at its regular meeting on Monday, April 17th, set the annual clean-up week for May 1-5$ received with regret the resignation of Edward Ellerton as Borough Secretary after 31 years’ service; let contracts for a new gas furnace and new flooring in the borough building to local contractors, who were the low bidders; appointed Anthony Bruno as a permanent police officer; voted to advertise for a new police car; heard that parking meter receipts were up $1,400 for the month; adopted a resolution opposing the lowering Of the police pension age from 60 to 55 and heard a report that 30 letters about unsafe sidewalks will be mailed soon. . The days when rubbish will be collected in the* different parts of the borough during the annual Clean-Up Week is published on page 21 of this week’s Herald. On advice of his physician, Edward Ellerton submitted his "resignation as borough secretary, effective May ist. A resolution was passed, stating that “Mr. Ellerton had served in that Capacity since January 6, 1930 and Was previously, a member of council for eight years* two of them as President. During his terms as councilman, he was one of its most active and valued members. Since his appointment as borough secretary, Mr. Ellerton has given freely of his time and talents ..and has lent .invaluable assistance in carrying out the work of this office, and his unfailing loyalty and support have, contributed greatly to the progress of this Borough.”' Council created the office of administrative consultant for Mr. Ellerton and he " will continue in that capacity^ Outside temporary clerical assistance was authorized, not to exceed $125 a month, to aid the Borough Manager in taking cate of the office detail. The office of Borough Secretary was combined with that of Borough Manager. ; : William S. Cook,' of Blackburn Road,'bid $2,658 to replace the coal furnace with a gas furnace and was awarded the .contract as the lowest bidder. Other bids were: J ohn E. kenneliy, $2,933; Economy Plumbing Co., $2,935 and Ambridge Plumbing and-Heating, $3,172.85. Cochran Floor Service, 237 Walnut Street, was the low bidder on new flooring in the borough building, bid-* ding $1,975. Other bids were Henry J. Schurman, Jr., $2,492 and E. J. Wanchock, $3,271. Cochran Floor Service was awarded the contract Anthony Bruno, whp achieved the highest rating in the recent Civil Service examinations, was appointed a permanent police officer. Mr. Howe was instructed to prepare specifications /for the advertising for bids for a new police car. The police com* mittee reported-that $294 of the un-„ paid 1960 parking tickets had been paid of a possible $490, due to a collection .campaign.
