Shields A happy family party last Saturday was followed by a nightmare for members of the family of Judith Carol Buck Davis, a native of Sewickley, who died in the jet crash that killed 154 Sunday nitfii Judy Davis was the daughter of the late Ross W. Buck, owner publisher of the 8ewkkley.ltaraM for many years, andth? late Ittitti Hadley Back. Mrs. Davis was flying bade to her home near.rodeoiA, Ariz. on Northwest Airlines Flight 255 when it crashed shortly after takeoff from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. On Saturday night, Mrs. Davis had attended a shower and a buffet supp#2hi New Castle, Pa., given by her in-laws for her only daughter, Ruth Dtvtafc who is engaged to be married in October 1907. The whole family and Ruth Davis's fiance from California had gathered for the party. Mis. E tavis had flown to Pittsburgh from Phoenix on Friday especially for the festive occasion. She left from her home in Paradise Valley, Ariz,, where she lived with ho* husband, Ronald Gene Davis, and their three children, Ronald Jr., Whitney and Ruth. Of the Saturday party, her aunt Ethel Buck Lawrence Of McCandless Township said, “Thewhole family was there.” She described her niece as “so happy, so full of pep.” The party-had also been attended by Edward and Garnet Buck McBride of Sewickley, her unde and aunt, and by her brother Ross W. Buck Jr., who was visitijng from Storrs, Conn. Mrs. Buck departed on Sunday from Greater Pittsburgh Airport. Her brother, Ross Jr., who had only scanty details of the tragedy, said he thought she must have changed planes in Detroit for the fatal flight, which, originated in Saginaw, Mich* Sewickley had seen Ruth Buck Davis and her brother “Bucky” grow up and considered their parents, Ross and-Ruth, as geed friends and neighbors on Charette Place. She was. born in Sewickley in 1936 and was graduated from Sewickley High School in one of .the last graduating classes before it was incorporated into the Quaker Valley School District. She was a graduate of Penn State University, where she met her husband, whose family lives in New Castle. As a girl she attended the Sewickley Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements had not been made at the time the Herald went to • press. Ross- Buck Jr. said the family suggests that any memorials in Judy’s name should be addressed to Friendship House, where his mother was a resident for many years. The address is 902 Centennial Ave, Sewickley, Pa. 15143. Judy Buck Davis dies in plane
