The program’s curriculum, he said, is recommended by ---------------Continued to page 21 By Ed Stankowski Jr. A Bell Acres youth died last Thursday after being burned on more than 93 percent of his body. , Daniel Nestor, 15, of Westholm Drive in Bell Acres, was transported by Life Flight to the Burn Unit of Pittsburgh’s West Penn Hospital Oct. 18 after a gas can he had taken from,his home to light a camp fire exploded.. • Ken Condit, Bell Aci;es fire chief, said it appeared Nestor “was dumping gas on the fire when the can exploded. He panicked; he was running and splashing gas on himself. There were no visible signs he tried to roll on the ground.” The victim's tennis shoes and ashes from his clothing were found near the fire, Condit said. Nestor’s clothing had been burned completely off, the fire chief added. Condit said Nestor went home, got into the bathtub, wrapped a towel around himself then ran to a neighbor’s house. Condit’s emergency crew was summoned to the neighbor's home at 5 p.m. He said the crew was in the area responding to a brush fire. It wasn’t until later, he said, that he realized the brush fire and the accident were related incidents. The incident, Condit said, could have been prevented. “Back in 1983 we sent letters to all the Quaker Valley fire departments to coordinate a fire-safety program in the schools.
