Fight In Grill Puts • Mon In Hospital > A fight hr Russo’s Grill resulted in a trip to Sewickley Valley Hospital for Marshall Turner-of 899 Dixon Road, at 12:55 a.m. on Friday, March 22nd. Police picked up a suspected assail-ant who was questioned, warned and released. y-v- - There were two bartenders on duty at the Grill, Louis Russo ând « Alex Ford, Jr,, who. made no move to stop the fight, according to the police report of the incident. ' Eugene Whitlock-and Ernest Fòrti took the victim to the hospital where attendants said both eyes were swollen shut, his mouth and lips were swollen and he had the possibility of a skull fracture. He was told to .report in the morning for X-rays. , ■ ' ' Reckless Motorist A motorist charged 'with reckless driving side-swiped two cars Saturday morning and caused his own , car to be towed away. o * John Muha, 1001 North Avenue, Baden, Struck a *52 Chevrolet Sedan owned by Charles F. Stinsel and pushed it into the.rear of a ’56 Fold convertible which also belonged to Mr, Stinsel. The cars were parked in front of the Stinsel home at 309 Walnut Street when they were rammed by Muha at 3:26 a,m. He was driving a car registered,to Joseph Demp&cy, 1048 North Avenue, The Dempsey car was damaged in the front and had to oe towed away. The Chevrolet was smashed on the right front side and die Fojd needed repairs in the rear. Sewickley ^police charged Huha with reckless driving. ^ ■ Grass Firs In (Ukammtkk SumLni The Cochran Hose Go. Was tailed out March 24 at 12:45 p.m. when Mrs. Alden Foster reported a grass fire on the hill behind *her home at 1207 Beaver Road» Osborne. the fire department spent approximately 30 minutes putting out the hillside blaze. Evaluation Committee j - • * * • Renders Verbal Report , Weakness In Vocational Courses To Be Corrected By Proposed Vocational Schools . After the meeting of the Quaker Valley Joint Schools Committee adjourned on Monday, March 18, the members heard a recording of dm oral rêpiqrt given at Hie school on Thursday, March 14, at die close of the three-day evaluation of the high school The report, triade by the chairman of the Evaluating Committee, F. Emerson Kaufmann, Assistant Superintendent of Westmoreland County Schools, was a quick collection of facts and general im-pressions. The chairman will now assemble the materiel and forward his report to the Middle States Association of Colleges and SecondaryThe school administrators wiH receive a report in several weeks, containing commendations mod recommendations. The notification of the acceptance or rejection by the Middle States will not be received for several months. Bills in the amount of 3105,452.72, induding$85,500 estimated gross March payroll for all employees except cafeteria woricers, Were approved for payment Cafeteria bills in the amount of $6,733.38, including die estimated Maroh payroll of $1,955.00 was approved for payment * The resignation of Mrs. Lillian W. Barnes, fourth, grade teacher in fod Leetsdale elementary school, was accepted with regret and appreciation for hier past services. The resignation will be effective at the . dose of the 1962-63 school term. The resignation of Mrs. Mary B. Sdevos, Commercial Teacher in the high school, was accepted with regret and appreciation for past services. Mrs. Sdevos* resignation will be effective February 25, 1963. Miss Emily Ann Mutz was ap-roved for employment as a substitute teacher for Mrs. Sdevos. Miss Mutz is a properly certified commercial teacher, Mr. Graham Hamilton, mathematics teacher in the junior HIgh School, will attend the National Council of Teachers- of Mathematics Convention in Pittsburgh, April 3-6, 1963. The following recommendations of the Activities Committee were approved; that the Sewickley Valley Hospital be granted permission to use approximately 10 classrooms in the Quaker Valley High’ School on Monday evening,. May 13, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 ,p.m. for. a * Hospital Career Night Junior and Senior year students from Quaker Valley and surrounding-high schools will be invited to the lecture-discussion meetings. Such careers as Hospital Administration, Hospital Engineering, Hospital Personnel, Hospital X-Ray, etc., will be covered. .This activity ' will tike place during National Hospital Week. Theme: "Today's Hospital, Career Center for America’s Youth.” . The Woman's Club of Fair Oaks will use the Fair Odes elementary school for a card party - on Tuesday evening, April 23. The Administration was authorized to prepare spécifications and advertise for public bid all supplies, materials and equipment for use irf the Quaker Valley Joint Schools during the School Year, 1963-64. Dr. Bédison will attend the Chief School* Administrator's Spring Con* ference at Buck Hill Falls, Pa., April 28-30. The following expenses for the Quaker Valley High School Evaluation held on March 12, 13, and 14, were approved for payment, (there was |1800 allotted for this purpose in the 1962-63 budget). Personal expenses for Committee members, $185.-92; Sewickley Motor Inn, $572.08; 6. V. High School Cafeteria, $301.19,v and Middle States Evaluation Fee, «0; , . Before the Committee heard the tape recording of the report, Mr, Colbert commended the Administration <m the dinner served Milch 11, in the high school cafeteria, to members of the ten school boards^ th e high school faculty and personnel, find foe evaluation committee. Mr. Colbert declared it one of foe nicest school functions, he had ever attended. The meal was excellent; the cafeteria looked beautiful, the service was very good, and everything moved along like dock work. The other members of foe Committee agreed, and Mr. Hawkins said he had gotten so used to having the Administration do an excellent Job that he forgets to say so regularly. Mr. Kaufman expressed foe committee’s * appreciation for foe fine hospitality -extended to them, their lodging, rooms at school In which to work, good food, and foe coopération afforded them by both facility .student body. The committee was pleased with the clear, concise way in which the objectives were stated, and impressed by the strong academic program, with foe faculty experienced and prepared to provide Instruction at various levels.
