Last week, Democratic incumbent Marie Guy announced her intentions to seek re-election in the upcoming primary. In addition, Councilman Peter F. Schlicht, a Republican, tossed his hat into the ring. Mayor Guy served three consecutive, terms as a member of borough council before being elected to the office of mayor in 1985. A lifelong resident of Sewickley, she is coming to the end of her first term in the mayor’s office. Mrs. Guy said regent clashes with borough council will not deter her from seeldng another four-year term. Included among those clashes are her veto of the 1989 budget and a.battle for control over the borough’s police department. A resident of Orchard Terrace, Mrs. Guy said, “Four years are not enough. It was a learning process.” The mayor said she is pleased with what she has been able to accomplish during her first term. “I didn’t have any disappointments for the lack of high expectations,” Mrs. Guy said.. In addition, the mayor she is most proud of her efforts to restore order to the police department. “I believe the institution of accountability and responsibility in the police department, is my greatest accomplishment; unfortunately, that situation has caused'the mbst confusion and problems.” She said she does not believe that controversy will effect her efforts to secure another term. Schlicht, a former Democrat turned Republican, also announced last week his candidacy for mayor.
