Nearly 20 storefronts in town vacant By Bobby Cherry STAFF WRITER ■ The number of “for rent” signs in Sewickley storefronts is on the rise. Since January, eight storefronts have closed. Overall, nearly 20 of the town's nearly 160 commercial spaces are vacant or have space to lease. In December 2007, a Sewickley Herald story reported a half-dozen shuttered storefronts in the town's central shopping district surrounding Beaver and Broad streets. Sewickley residents have long taken pride in the shopping district that is anchored by mostly locally-owned stores, an eclectic mix featuring antique shops, one-of-a-kind finds, a children's boutique and a bakery.
