Sewickley Firemen Confine Flames To Second ' Floor Bedroom and Hall Despite Delays _>T ' ■ ~ ■ v " Shortly after the Sewickley fire siren Sounded at 0:15 p.m. Saturday, residents as far away as Maple Lane could look up the hill arid see red flames shooting from a house. Those flames were coming from a second*flopr front bedroom in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Noel at 744 Orchard Terrace. Most of the spectators thoù^f thé house was doomed, but Sewickley firemen confined the flapies to the bedroom and-hallancLstopped it before it mush* roomed under. the roof! v They accomplished-thèv feat despite the fact that they' had to lay a line of hose from thchouse to a pumper and fire plug on Hopkins Street, in birder to. secure enough water and pressure to fight-the blaze. The water in'Me booster tank was used to hold die fire while the long line was laid. - The Noels and their five children were in the dining room, celebrating Craig Noel's 10th birthday when Mrs. • Noel-smefied smoke.. “Mr. Noel ejasfied upstairs to find one of. the children's bedrooms on 'fire,. He. went out the other front bedroom window to tiy to drag* the burning mattress and covers out the window, but lhè bed was too wide to go through. Tim gift program of the Sewickley Valley Board Of lYade is for die purpose of awarding those who do their. Christinas «Wpiwg locally as well as expressing the thanks of die local merchants to their customers. The Gift Day Program which is financed by the merchants is entirely separate from die Christmas ?.![>■«». Santa program, also sponsored by the Board of Trade. Joseph Dzurec, chairman oEthe* Christmas Gift Days program* Robert Karasek and Nathan Gusky, members of the committee, presided over “the Gift Days drawing, speaking over the Board of Trade's portable loud speak-ing system, Mr. Dzurec thanked the audience for turning out in the cold, announced that Santa would be here for the last time betweqif 11 a.ni; and 3 pjm on Saturday, December ITtli and that the'final drawing for 14 Gift Certificate Books would be held at noon on that day.
