Gibb SEWICKLEY, PENNSYLVANIA Monday, May 30,1960 - - - - - - - Commander of the Day Sewickley Valley Post No. 4, American Legion Heads State Association Headmaster Clifford Nicholas, Jr. Clifford Nichols, Jr., Headmaster of Sewickley Academy, has ¡been elected to three-year term as president of Pennsylvania Association of Private Schools. The association is the only accrediting body for private schools in Pennsylvania and works olosely with the State Department of Education in maintaining high academic stand- ards for private schools in the state Mr, Nichols is also a member of the executive committee of National Council of Independent Schools and is a member of Country Day Headmasters' Association. He is a member of Secondary Education Board’s admission committe and of the Board of of Trustees of The Grier School, Tyrone. Stanley Diehl, president; Mrs, George C. Hayes, vice-president; Joseph Buzard, treasurer and Raymond Howe, secretary. Directors were also re-elected. They are W. Henry Beighlea, Warren Breithaupt, Mrs. George C. Hayes, Raymond Howe, W. F. Iorio, Mrs. T. W. Neely and C. A. Woods, Jr. After spending $750 to extend the roadway towards the Kiwanis shelter and $300 for a survey of the boundary lines of the park, the treasury has balance of about $200. President Diehl said there was no great need for money, unless the Association desired to extend the road further or buy materials for another shelter or two. He expressed the hope that civic organizations would follow the example of the Kiwanis Club and erect shelters. After discussion of Various needs in the park, including a toboggan slide and ski slope for winter sports, Mr. Diehl appointed the Reverend Kenneth White, • Mrs. Hayes and Charles Eaton to a committee to work with Mr. Howe on exploring the possibilities of a fundrraising dr/ve to make further improvements in the park. The need for more shelters was shown by the advance 29 reservations with an expected attendance of 1,63S for the present shelter. In May there were 5 reservations with 200 people; June, 7 with 485; July, 10 with 695; August, 6 with 305 and one in September. Those who fail to make -reser-1 vations early are sometimes disappointed in not being able to secure the desired date. An enclosed shelter with an open fireplace was suggested as a way to attract more people to the park for winter sports.
