Photo by Mike May ▼ SEWICKLEY HEIGHTS Gypsy-moth spraying to be studied Sewickley Heights Council will look into a more consistent ^psy-moth spraying program, after a resident alerted council to a problem in her part of the borough. Rachel Gould, of Lee Road, said she has had a major infestation on her property, which forced her to voluntarily have part of her property sprayed, National Gypsy Moth, the borough’s gyspy-moth consulting firm, conducts its survey in October to determine hot spots in the borough. The survey showed that spraying was not need- ed in Ms. Gould’s part of the borough this spring. As Ms, Gould explained the situation, the gypsy moths came in abruptly and unexpectedly in the early months of this year, several months after the borough’s firm performed its survey. Ms. Gould said her major purpose in telling council about the situation is so that a follow-up study could be undertaken before spraying every May. Councilman John C. Oliver III said her notion of a follow-up is well-taken and assured her the borough should look into the idea. « e focus Bv FBAHK TfBONi Staff writer An eyesore of longstanding in Sewicldey might be set for a brighter future at long last. Council will hold an Aug. 3 public hearing to consider a zoning change that could make way for a drive-in bank on the site of the former Monte Asti Buick dealership building. Under the proposal, the delapidated structure at the corner of Centennial Avenue and Broad Street would be changed from R-3 to C-2. Councilwoman Carolyn Hammer, who serves on the Planning Commission, said that Pittsburgh National Bank is interested in demolishing the building and constructing a drive-through complex. PNB plaps call for a four-to five-lane facility, with a bypass lane. The complex is expected to cover 675 square feet. Ms. Hammer said council has asked for traffic studies on the project before a decision to change the zoning can be made. In the past, residents in that part of the borough have expressed concern about possible traffic hazards if the property is developed. She said the borough has received several offers on the property in recent months. In February, council nixed a zoning amendment that would have permitted Forbes Trail^ Development Corp. to convert"^ the site into a medical center. Council acts to fill now-empty seat In order to establish rules for nominations to fill the unexpired term of the late Alfonso Scalercio, Sewickley Council held a special meeting yesterday (Tuesday). Councilperson Carolyn Hammer said council needs to appoint a successor within 30 days after his death, Scalercio passed died June 20.
