Brannon officially retires on Friday, but council still has not chosen a successor. By mm TIgOHI Slaff writer The Sewickley Municipal Building has been flooded with resumes to fill the position of Police Chief Walter J. Bran-ndn’i who is retiring this Friday. Councilman Hugh McMaster III, a police-committee member, said more than 100 resumes have been received from prospective applicants from all over the country. And he said the interviewing is currently under way. McMaster said the committee hopes to interview the best eight candidates and then submit the top three to council. McMaster hopes to have the whole process wrapped up by mid-August, but no date has been set to name the new chief or temporary. The new police chief will command a salary of $36,400 a year. Brannon, 65, joined the Sewickley police force in 1952 and has been its chief for the past 16 years. »The Sewickley Zoning and Planning Commission will hold a special workshop meeting this week to rewrite three sections of its sign ordinance. The ordinance has come into the spotlight in recent months when some merchants complained about other local vendors who were using their backlit signs, which are prohibited by the borough’s ordinance. Fox’s Pizza owner Jim Paladino asked council what has been done in recent months to solve the problem. Councilwoman Carolyn Hammer told Paladino that some of the businesses violating the ordinance have been visited by the borough’s zoning officer and have been cited.
