Bush was attending a fund-raising event for Sen, Rick Santorum's campaign last week in Sewickley Heights, more than 200 people gathered down the hill at Wolcott Park in Sewickley with a message: "Rick Santorum, we're not for him." The peaceful protest and candlelight vigil was held in opposition to the senator, the president and Congresswoman Melissa Hart where issues, ranging from rising healthcare and gasoline costs, to the war in Iraq, the environment and the No Child Left Behind Act, were highlighted by people of all ages and walks of life. ------------------------Continued on Pago 15 Photo by Kristina Kregiel SBWICK1E.Y Plans OK’d for condos on Beaver By Kristina Kregiel _ Staff writer The borough of Sewickley will soon boast another beautiful piece of property as council last week, approved plans for new condominiums to be built at 808 Beaver St. At a public hearing held during March’s regular council meeting, representatives from Beaver Hall Associates LLP, explained plans for new single family residences, which will include exterior balconies overlooking a landscaped courtyard, private patios, double-hung windows, storage facilities and, in some cases, elevators that open into the residence. The three structures — Ivy, Rose and Lily — will feature a total of 24 housing units with 18 of those units in the Ivy building. There will be three units each in Lily and Rose, measuring 3,000 square feet — or the size of an entire floor. The new condominiums will replace existing apartments. Aside from the housing units, a 37,000 square foot underground parking garage also will be constructed as part of the project, The underground garage will accommodate 61 cars for residents and visitors. Mechanical and safety issues and specifications such as sprinkler systems and emergency vehicle access also were discussed by representatives of Beaver Hall Asso-ciates LLP at the hearing. -------- Continued on Page 4 Visit us cmiihfe at www yoursewickiby.com
