Plato by Ed Galieis 50 Cents T SEWICKLEY HILLS New park envisioned in new year BY 09M MEBIND Staff writer Sewiekley Hills Council is moving ahead with its plans for a community park; and'if all goes according to its collective vision, the summer of 1995 will be the summer of a new soccer field and play area for borough .children,. Councilperson Linda Edson has worked on this project for nearly a year with a committee of four: FMneFmtaFm, Filers Hermes, Patti Ley and Debbie 'Hiomas,. The site that will accommodate the multi-purpess use Is off Magee Road hear the borough been discussed. Offers ofdonated land have been considered, but the committee’s concerns are foradequateplayareaandpark-ing. ■ ■■■■■ ■ Initial plans prepared by borough engineer Jim Barrick were considered. However, thedollar estimatefor enacting his design was too costly. Council President Tom Klixbull suggested that council seek firm bids for the clearing and grading of theland, which was purchased more than a decade ago. He sees this park’s becoming “a real community project if the residents will involvetliemselves in volunteering.,..” The park first will contain a three-quarter size soccer field. Later, facilities for basketball,. volleyball and perhaps tennis are envisioned. As council sees it, the park Will be self-supervising. Liability costs will be handled under the existing iaswaneo coverage at the same expense. Klixtall noted that an informal agreement had been reached with a -group to provide maintenance. “Thetaxpayersrequireasafe place to play,” said Councilman John Henderson. The new "green space0 will give all the residents of Sewiekley Hills an opportunity to play and work together, he said.
