Farabaugh____ Staff writer_______________ Students at Quaker Valley Middle School are transforming the negative into the positive, mobilizing the fear and confusion of Sept. 11 into action and understanding. A committee of students, teachers and administrators decided to host either a fundraiser or an awareness activity on or around the 11th of every month as a tribute to the vic-> tims, their families and everyone affected by the Sept. 11 attack. A group of eighth graders designed a T-shirt to commemorate the year’s activities and create a lasting reminder of their positive response to the tragedy. American Eagle Outfitters graciously donated T-shirts for all of ------------ Conlinuad on Pug«4 REGIONAL QV district split between two state reps By Rebecca L. Farabaugh Staff writer ______________•_ Rep, John Pippy (R) will now represent several Sewickley area communities in the Pennsylvania legislature, taking the reigns from Rep. Susan Laughlin (D). The change will officially take place sometime in mid-February, after the state board certifies the district, and all appeals have-been heard. Pippy will take on the communities of Aleppo, Edgeworth, Haysville, Osborne, Sewickley, Sewickley Hills arid Sewickley Heights. These areas will be part of the 44th District, joining Moon Township, Ben Avon Heights, Ohio Ibwnship and Kilbuck. Laughlin will Continue to represent the areas of. Leet, Leetsdale, Bell Acres and Ambridge. These communities will join Bellevue, a small portion of Ross Township and Franklin Park, and some of Beaver County to form the 16th Legislative District. Laughlin reported a strong relationship between herself, her staff and the people of Sewickley, regarding her ability to solve constituent concerns as one of her proudest accomplishments. “I always did my best to meet even the smallest concerns of Sewickley and its residents,” she said. She said her proudest moment came last year when she testified at the Verizon hearing, joining others to ensure that Sewickley was not left out of the white page listings.
