For more photbs from the 2008 prom, see Page 11. submitted photo SEWICKLEY Study finds suggestions for parking By Bobby Cherry___________ Staff writer______________ “Sewickley Village has 1,007 parking spaces and one is waiting for you.” If Sewickley’s Business District Advisory Committee gets its way, that message might soon replace parking tickets as a friendly warning that a shopper’s parking meter has expired. Committee member Tom DeFazio, who organized the parking study results, would like to see less aggressive parking enforcement in town, “to assure visitors to the business district that they will have a friendly environment so they’re willing to come back. The committee will take its recommendations to council when it meets in June. “The goal here is to avoid people running out to the malls to shop instead of the business district.” In December, Town Center Associates, a regional redevelopment firm, conducted several parking studies and determined a majority of Sewickley’s parking problem wasn’t a lack of spaces, but a lack of direction leading to available spots. The group also surveyed more than 100 businesses to gather information on employee parking habits, customer complaints and other parking perception issues.
