For the past 12 years, Sewickley Heights residents have relied on Cochran Hose Co. for fire protection and relat- ed services. The switch in services is linked to the amount of money Sewickley Heights claims it is able to pay, and that which Sewickley would charge, based on a property value assessment. “Clearly, if you did the math, it was around $69,000,” said Kevin Flannery, Sewickley's borough manager, of the proposed fee. “Sewickley Heights said they can’t afford to pay ... that they don’t have any money,” explained Flannery, who earlier this year expressed a desire on behalf of Sewickley Council to negotiate a new contract. “The contract based payment for [fire protection] services on assessed valuation [of Sewickley Heights property],” read a statement from the Borough of Sewickley. The statement also noted that, during informal negotiations, Sewickley conceded more than $11,000, from $69,078.88 to $52,000 for 2004, with a three-and-one-half percent increase yearly, while Sewickley Heights countered with $50,000, up from $45,000. “One concern I have is the safety and well-being of the residents of Sewickley Heights,” ------- Conitadiri aa Paga 4 ckley Herald Star with; your news tips at 412-809-1191 or e-mail Sewickley.Herald@trir»ity-pgh.com |
